Seba-juku
was the thirty-first of the sixty-nine stations of the Nakasendō. It is located in the central part of the present-day city of Shiojiri, Nagano Prefecture, Japan. History The area was named "Seba," which means "washing a horse," when a retainer of Minamoto no Yoshinaka washed his master's horse in the waters here. Seba-juku was originally established in 1614, along with Shiojiri-juku and Motoyama-juku, in order to accommodate the change in the Nakasendō's route. Shiojiri-juku
was the thirtieth of the sixty-nine stations of the Nakasendō. It is located in the central part of the present-day city of Shiojiri, Nagano Prefecture, Japan. History This area was originally built by Ōkubo Nagayasu in the Keichō era of the early Edo period. There was a shorter route along the Nakasendō that connected Shimosuwa-shuku and Niekawa-juku directly, but the route was changed to include this post town, as well as Seba-juku and Motoyama-juku, after Ōkubo's death. It eventually became the connecting post town between Shimosuwa-shuku and Seba-juku. During its most prosperous period, there were over 70 buildings in the town and it thrived as one of the ''kokudaka'' of the Matsumoto Domain. was the thirty-second of the sixty-nine stations of the Nakasendō. It is located in the central part of the present-day city of Shiojiri, Nagano Prefecture, Japan. History Motoyama became a post town in 1614, when the Nakasendō's route was changed. It became a post town at the same time as Shiojiri-juku and Seba-juku. Minamoto No Yoshinaka
, , or Lord Kiso was a general from the late Heian period of Japanese history. A member of the Minamoto clan, Minamoto no Yoritomo was his cousin and rival during the Genpei War between the Minamoto and the Taira clans. Yoshinaka was born in Musashi province. His dharma name was Tokuon'in Gisan Senkō (徳音院義山宣公). Early life Yoshinaka's father, Minamoto no Yoshikata, was killed by Minamoto no Yoshihira in 1155. Yoshihira also sought to kill Yoshinaka who escaped to Shinano Province. He was raised by Nakahara Kaneto, Imai Kanehira's father, together with his milk-brother Imai Kanehira, who would later become his best friend and most loyal retainer. Yoshinaka later changed his name from Minamoto to , to reflect the Kiso Mountains where he was raised.
