The thallus of this lichen has a lichen growth forms, form that is intermediate between crustose lichen, crustose and foliose lichen, foliose. Taxonomy The genus was circumscription (taxonomy), circumscribed in 2013 by the lichenologists Ulrik Søchting, Ulf Arup, and Patrick Frödén. The genus name honours the Argentinian lichenologist Nora Scutari. ''Scutaria andina'' was first species description, formally described by Veli Räsänen in 1939, who classified it as a species of ''Xanthoria''. Scutari and colleagues had proposed to transfer the taxon to the genus ''Caloplaca'' in 2002. Phylogenetics, Phylogenetically, ''Scutaria'' is sister group, sister to a clade containing the genera ''Josefpoeltia'', ''Teloschistes'', and ''Villophora''; the entire group forms a well-supported clade with ''Wetmoreana''. Teloschistaceae
The Teloschistaceae are a large family of mostly lichen-forming fungi belonging to the class Lecanoromycetes in the division Ascomycota. The family, estimated to contain over 1800 species, was extensively revised in 2013, including the creation or resurrection of 31 genera. It contains three subfamilies: Xanthorioideae, Caloplacoideae, and Teloschistoideae. A fourth subfamily, Brownlielloideae, proposed in 2015, has been shown to be part of the Teloschistoideae. Genera This is a list of the genera contained within the Teloschistaceae, based on a 2020 review and summary of ascomycete classification.
