Scottish Alternative Music Awards
The Scottish Alternative Music Awards (SAMAs) is an annual music award based in Glasgow, Scotland. The SAMAs present awards in seven categories to the best emerging artists in Scotland. History The SAMAs were founded in 2009 by music entrepreneur Richy Muirhead, initially as a university project. The project grew to become the awards that exist today, with the first SAMAs being held in 2010 at The Classic Grand, Glasgow. In subsequent years the awards have been hosted at The Garage, Glasgow. The SAMAs have grown year on year to become a must on the Scottish music calendar drawing support from the likes of broadcaster Vic Galloway, DJ Jim Gellatly, and various artists and sponsors. Zoë Bestel
Zoë Bestel is a Scottish singer-songwriter, who describes her music as Nu-Folk. She started learning the Ukulele in 2011 and released her first EP in 2012. Bestel has released two albums, been nominated for the Scottish Alternative Music Awards under the Best Acoustic category and supported artists such as Nathan Connolly of Snow Patrol, Emily Smith, The Paul McKenna Band, The Peatbog Faeries, Erin Rae, Chris Wood, Paul Brady, Steve Tilston and Bella Hardy. Steven Gilfoyle (born in Glasgow, Scotland; is better known by his stage name Steg G) is a Scottish hip hop music producer, radio presenter and recording artist. His involvement with Scottish hip-hop culture began with a pioneering role in the early to mid '90s, and he is still involved twenty years later. He is the founder and current CEO of Powercut Productions, a hip hop label based in Glasgow, Scotland. Biography He started his early hip hop career working with local rap acts such as BAAD Company and Sons of the Devil as their DJ and producer. The Snuts
The Snuts are a Scottish indie rock band formed in 2015, originating from West Lothian, Scotland. They have performed across the United Kingdom and Ireland. The band consists of Jack Cochrane (vocals and guitar), Joe McGillveray (guitar), Callum '29' Wilson (bass) and Jordan 'Joko' Mackay (drums) and was formed when the members were in school. History Wilson, McGillveray and McKay went to primary school with each other and they met Cochrane at secondary school. Wilson has said "we’ve only ever really played music together so I can’t really imagine it any other way". Kobi Onyame (born Kwame Barfour-Osei) is an independent recording hip-hop artist, producer and songwriter based in the United Kingdom. His albums ''Gold'' and ''Don't Drink the Poison'' were shortlisted for the Scottish Album of the Year Award in 2018 and 2022 respectively. Biography Onyame was born in Ghana and grew up in Accra.
