Scott Tannas
Scott Tannas (born February 25, 1962) is a Canadian senator and, since November 5, 2019, leader of the Canadian Senators Group, a parliamentary caucus. Tannas is the former President/CEO and founder of Western Financial Group (formerly Hi-Alta Capital Inc.), an insurance brokerage, life insurance and banking company headquartered in High River, Alberta, Canada. Tannas was elected as a senator-in-waiting in the 2012 Alberta Senate nominee election, and appointed to the Senate following the retirement of Senator Bert Brown on March 22, 2013. Outside of politics, Tannas runs the Alberta-based Western Investment Company of Canada, a private equity firm. Mount Royal University
Mount Royal University (MRU) is a public university in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. History Mount Royal University was founded by Alberta provincial charter by the Arthur Sifton government on December 16, 1910 and officially opened on September 8, 1911. Originally "Mount Royal College", the institution was the brainchild of Calgary Reverend George W. Kerby (1860-1944) who sought an opportunity for higher education for the benefit of young people from rural homes in the area. The provincial charter as presented in the legislature by R. B. Macleod was a federal electoral district in Alberta, Canada, that was represented in the House of Commons of Canada from 1908 to 1968 and from 1988 to 2015. The Progressive Conservative Party of Canada (PC; french: Parti progressiste-conservateur du Canada) was a centre-right federal political party in Canada that existed from 1942 to 2003. Ken Hughes (politician)
Kenneth Gardner Hughes (born 11 February 1954) is a Canadian politician. He served as a member of the House of Commons of Canada from 1988 to 1993. Later he was chair of Alberta Health Services from 2008 to 2011, before being elected to the Legislative Assembly of Alberta in 2012. He served in the provincial cabinet first as Energy minister, then as Municipal Affairs minister until resigning on 7 April 2014 to enter the Progressive Conservative Association of Alberta leadership election. Donald Alfred Tannas (born April 25, 1938) is a former provincial politician from Alberta, Canada. He served as a Member of the Alberta Legislature from 1989 until 2004. He was born in Marwayne, Alberta. Political history Tannas has a long history of being politically active. He ran for the Progressive Conservative nomination for Highwood in 1974 but lost to George Wolstenholme. He worked on the campaigns for Wolstenholme and later Harry Alger. He worked to fund-raise for the party and later served as President of the Highwood PC Association. After Alger announced his retirement, he ran for the PC nomination again in 1989 and won.
