Scotsport
''Scotsport'' is a Scotland, Scottish sports television programme, broadcast on STV (TV channel), STV in northern and central Scotland between 1957 and 2008, as well as on ITV Border in southern Scotland. It was first broadcast in 1957 as ''Sports Desk'' and continuing until the end of its football highlights show in May 2008. As such, the programme was officially recognised as the world's longest-running sports television programme; however, it has since been overtaken by ''Hockey Night in Canada''. History Launching less than a month after the opening of Scottish Television, the programme first aired on 18 September 1957, as ''Sports Desk''. The ''Scotsport'' title was adopted a short time later, and the vast majority of its coverage was of association football, football, rather than sport in general, as the name might imply. Arthur Montford
Arthur Montford (25 May 1929 – 26 November 2014) was a Scottish Television sports journalist, best known for his 32-year tenure as the presenter of Scottish Television's '' Scotsport''. Although he was most associated with football, he covered a number of other sports for ITV, notably golf. Early life Montford was raised in Greenock and was a lifelong supporter of local football club Greenock Morton. Journalism Montford worked as both a print journalist and radio broadcaster before joining Scottish Television in August 1957 as a continuity announcer. He was then chosen to present STV's new sports programme, '' Scotsport'' (originally ''Sports Desk''), where he remained as anchorman for 32 years. In all, he hosted over 2,000 editions of the programme. Sally McNair
Sally McNair (born 1956) is a female television sports journalist in Scotland. She worked as a presenter and reporter at STV on the world's longest-running TV sports programme, "Scotsport" from 1982. Career In 1982, McNair joined ''Scotsport'' and become the first female sports presenter in television in Scotland. In 1990 she began presenting an afternoon show on BBC Radio Scotland. ''Sportscene'' is the name of a range of Scottish sports television programmes produced by BBC Scotland. Jim White (presenter)
James White (born 16 July 1957 in Glasgow) is a Scottish radio and television presenter, known primarily for his work with Sky Sports and Talksport. Early life After completing a pre-entry journalist course at Napier College in Edinburgh, White began his media career with Scottish & Universal Newspapers in 1974. Andrew Francis Walker (born 6 April 1965 in Glasgow) is a Scottish former footballer, who played as a striker for several clubs in Scotland and England, including Motherwell, Celtic, Bolton Wanderers, Sheffield United, and Ayr United. He also made three full international appearances for Scotland. Since retiring as a player, Walker has become a television pundit. ''STV Sports Centre'' was a Scottish regional sports stand, covering the two STV franchise areas of Northern and Central Scotland. The strand was produced the STV News department in Glasgow ( STV Central), with contributions from STV North's news team in Aberdeen. Until May 2011, ''Sports Centre'' aired two different programmes: ''Friday Night Football'', broadcast on Friday nights at 10:30pm, and ''Magners League Rugby'' – airing on Sundays straight after the late '' ITV News'' bulletin. Bob Crampsey
Robert Anthony Crampsey (8 July 1930 – 27 July 2008) was a Scottish association football historian, author, broadcaster and teacher, described as a "much loved Scottish cultural institution" by ''The Times''. Early life and career Crampsey was born in Glasgow. A graduate of the University of Glasgow, Associate of the Royal College of Music and former Head Teacher of St. Ambrose High School in Coatbridge, Lanarkshire. Crampsey was 1965's 'Brain of Britain'. STV (TV Channel)
STV is a Scottish free-to-air public broadcast television channel owned and operated by the STV Group. It is made up of the Central Scotland and Northern Scotland Channel 3 public broadcaster licences, formerly known as Scottish Television (now legally STV Central Ltd) and Grampian Television (now legally STV North Ltd) respectively. The STV brand refers to the on-air name used by Scottish Television for much of its history - notably in the 1970s and early 1980s.
