Schimmelpenninck (family)
Schimmelpenninck is the name of the family belonging to the Dutch and German nobility, whose member played important political and military roles in the history of the Netherlands, Prussia and later in the German Empire. History The first recorded members of the family lived in the 15th century Zutphen and belonged to the political elite of that city. Two branches exist nowadays: * Schimmelpenninck van der Oye: descendants of the family in Zutphen. They have the title of baron. The earliest known member is Jacob Schimmelpenninck who is mentioned in Zutphen from 1418 onwards. * Schimmelpenninck: This branch started with the wine merchant Johan Jacobsz Schimmelpenninck († 1574) who was an illegitimate son of a member of the aforementioned Schimmelpenninck van der Oye family. Monique De Bissy
Monique de Bissy (married Schimmelpenninck; 13 March 1923 – 17 November 2009) was a French-Belgian resistance member during World War II. She was born in Schaerbeek, Belgium and died in Montpellier, France. Belgian Resistance Monique de Bissy started the war as a nurse for the Belgian Red Cross and then she enrolled in the Resistance after the Belgian defeat in 1940 (aged 17). She worked for several resistance groups, such as the « Brigade Blanche », and the « Ailes Brisées ». She also worked on the Comet Line. She organized and participated in the escape to Spain of 20 Allies pilots after their aircraft had been shot by the German Army around the Belgian city of Liège. She was arrested in 1944 after denunciation and was taken to the jail of Maastricht in Netherlands where she was tortured. After four months of detention she was liberated by U.S. troops in August 1944. She never gave any information to the Nazis during her captivity and she managed to keep her resi ... Baroness Gratia Maria Margretha Schimmelpenninck van der Oye (10 July 1912 – 12 February 2012) was a Dutch alpine skier. Her father Alphert, Baron Schimmelpenninck van der Oye was president of the Dutch National Olympic Committee, during the 1928 Summer Olympics in Amsterdam, and a long-term member of the International Olympic Committee. Gratia reached sixth place at the world championships and won two major ski races, in St. Anton and Kitzbühel. She competed at the 1936 Winter Olympics in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, finishing 14th in the alpine combined event. Jan Elias Nicolaas, Baron Schimmelpenninck van der Oye (12 August 1836 – 11 April 1914) was a Dutch politician. Schimmelpenninck van der Oye was a general of military engineering who, as a member of the Anti-Revolutionary Party, became both a member of the member of the House of Representatives and of the Senate. Rutger Jan Schimmelpenninck (31 October 1761 – 15 February 1825), Lord of Nyenhuis, Peckedam and Gellicum, was a Dutch jurist, ambassador and politician who served as Grand Pensionary of the Batavian Republic from 1805 to 1806. Education Schimmelpenninck was born into a bastard branch of the noble family Schimmelpenninck (family), Schimmelpenninck van der Oye in Deventer, Lordship of Overijssel, Overijssel on 31 October 1761. Gerrit, Count Schimmelpenninck (25 February 1794 – 4 October 1863) was a Dutch businessman and politician, whose views ranged from liberal to conservative. He was the son of Grand Pensionary Rutger Jan Schimmelpenninck and a member of the Dutch Reformed Church. He was also the first holder of the modern day post Prime Minister of the Netherlands, then known as the Chairman of the Council of Ministers After other functions, among which chief of the Nederlandsche Handelmaatschappij, he became head of secretary in Saint Petersburg and later in London.
