''Scarlett Hill'' was a Canadian soap opera (first written for CBC Television) which ran from October 1962 to 1964. This was the first daytime soap opera produced for Canadian television, although it was based upon an American radio drama created by Robert and Kathleen Lindsay. The series focused on the residents of a boarding house, and starred John Drainie, Ed McNamara, Gordon Pinsent, and Beth Lockerbie. The series was syndicated to the United Kingdom, Australia and the US; in America, the show ran in syndication from 1965 to 1966 on a handful of stations. Alan James Pearce (born 25 October 1965) is an English former professional Association football, footballer who played as a midfielder#Winger, winger. He played for York City F.C., York City, Torquay United F.C., Torquay United, Shildon A.F.C., Shildon and South Bank F.C., South Bank. Ivor Barry
Ivor Barry (12 April 1919 – 12 December 2006) was a Welsh film and television actor. Born in South Wales, Barry served with the British Royal Artillery during World War II and completed his university studies prior to beginning his acting career. After bit parts in England, he moved to Canada in the early 1950s where he also wrote and adapted scripts for radio as well acting in television. He eventually moved to Hollywood in the 1960s, and made many television and film appearances over the next 25 years. He played the part of Wyatt (Ilan Mitchell-Smith) and Chet (Bill Paxton) Donnelly's grandfather in the 1985 film '' Weird Science''. Barry's television appearances included ''Bonanza'', ''Daniel Boone'', ''Bewitched'', ''Hawaii Five-O'', '' Mission: Impossible'', ''The Six Million Dollar Man'', ''Fantasy Island'', ''Punky Brewster'', and ''Highway to Heaven''. ''The Soap Opera Encyclopedia'' is a 1985 reference book by Christopher Schemering which assembles comprehensive information about all daytime and prime time soap operas broadcast up to the date of publication. It was revised and reprinted in 1987 and 1988, but is currently out of print. ''The Soap Opera Encyclopedia'' features commentary, analysis and criticism of "every daytime and prime-time television soap opera broadcast on the three major networks, as well as a selection of syndicated, cable, and foreign efforts." Gordon Edward Pinsent (born July 12, 1930) is a Canadian actor, writer, director, and singer. He is known for his roles in numerous productions, including ''Away from Her'', ''The Rowdyman'', ''John and the Missus'', ''A Gift to Last'', '' Due South'', ''The Red Green Show'' and ''Quentin Durgens, M.P.''
