Alan Pearce
Alan James Pearce (born 25 October 1965) is an English former professional Association football, footballer who played as a midfielder#Winger, winger. He played for York City F.C., York City, Torquay United F.C., Torquay United, Shildon A.F.C., Shildon and South Bank F.C., South Bank. Career Born in Middlesbrough, North Riding of Yorkshire, Pearce started his career with York City F.C., York City as an apprentice in August 1982. He signed a professional contract with the club in October 1983 and made his first team debut the following month, starting York's 3–2 victory away at Hartlepool United F.C., Hartlepool United on 26 November. Pearce scored his first goal one week later on 3 December with York's second goal in a 2–0 victory at home to Aldershot F.C., Aldershot. Middlesbrough
Middlesbrough ( ) is a town on the southern bank of the River Tees in North Yorkshire, England. It is near the North York Moors national park. It is the namesake and main town of its local borough council area. Until the early 1800s, the area was rural farming land. Non-League football describes football leagues played outside the top leagues of a country. Usually, it describes leagues which are not fully professional. The term is primarily used for football in England, where it is specifically used to describe all football played at levels below those of the Premier League (20 clubs) and the three divisions of the English Football League (EFL; 72 clubs). Currently, a non-League team would be any club playing in the National League or below that level. Typically, non-League clubs are either semi-professional or amateur in status, although the majority of clubs in the National League are fully professional, some of which are former EFL clubs who have suffered relegation. 1983–84 Football League
The 1983– 84 season was the 85th completed season of the English Football League. Liverpool had a successful first season under the management of Joe Fagan as they wrapped up their third successive league title and the 15th in their history. They overcame strong competition from Southampton, Nottingham Forest and Manchester United to lift the championship trophy. Liverpool had an extremely strong season, as they also won the European Cup and the League Cup. Southampton finished second in the league to record their highest-ever final position and achieve a UEFA Cup place, claiming six points from the last two games (both away) to climb up from fifth place. Free Transfer (football)
In professional association football, a free transfer, also known as a Bosman transfer, involves a professional association football club releasing a player when the player's contract has expired or made available just before the end of the contract. The player can then go on to sign for any club offering a contract to them. How it works The club acquiring the player does not have to pay any compensation for their release due to having nothing left to pay on their contract, hence, the term free transfer. Some individual leagues have restrictions to protect academies. For example, in the UK, players under 24 who are out of contract are only available on a free transfer if released by the club holding the players' licence. Sean Matthew Haslegrave (7 June 1951 – 22 November 2019) was an English footballer who played in the Football League for Stoke City, Nottingham Forest, Preston North End, Crewe Alexandra, York City and Torquay United. Football career Haslegrave was born in Stoke-on-Trent and began his career with local side Stoke City in 1968 signing on a professional contract in 1970. He made his debut against Derby County in December 1970 and went on to make 22 appearances in 1970–71. He played in 24 games in 1971–72 scoring twice but was restricted to six appearances in 1972–73 due to injury and on his return made 37 appearances in 1973–74. Brian Pollard
Brian Edward Pollard (born 22 May 1954) is an English former professional footballer who played as a winger. Career Born in York, Pollard started his career with hometown club York City as an amateur, before signing a professional contract in March 1972. From 1971 to 1972 he was capped five times for England at youth level. He joined Watford for a record fee of £33,000 in November 1977.
