Scarlet's Well
Scarlet's Well were a British pop band formed in 1998 by Bid of The Monochrome Set, after the latter band amicably split for the second time. They originally started as a studio project, the first four albums featuring a total of ten lead vocalists, including Bid (the only male voice), Zarif and Alice Healey, the latter being the only member other than Bid who has appeared on all albums. A live band was formed at the beginning of 2004, with the help of Dickon Edwards, who appeared as lead guitarist at the first gig. Since then, they have been through various line-up changes with the last listed below. Using a wide range of instruments on the albums ("rock", folk and orchestral), the music has been variously described as "gypsy folk to English psychedelic rock", "hybrid English pop and Baroque music", "a rich, lush and densely layered confection", and "sprightly guitar pop". Indie Pop
Indie pop (also typeset as indie-pop or indiepop) is a music genre and subculture that combines guitar pop with DIY ethic in opposition to the style and tone of mainstream pop music. It originated from British post-punk in the late 1970s and subsequently generated a thriving fanzine, Independent record label, label, and club and gig circuit. Compared to its counterpart, indie rock, the genre is more melodic, less abrasive, and relatively angst-free. In later years, the definition of ''indie pop'' has bifurcated to also mean bands from unrelated DIY scenes/movements with pop leanings. Subgenres include chamber pop and twee pop. Linus (band)
Linus was an indie band from London, England, formed in 1992. Fosca (band)
Fosca was a British band, combining indie pop songwriting with synthpop instrumentation. Initially, the band was formed by bassist Peter Theobalds and Orlando guitarist/lyricist Dickon Edwards plus Orlando drummer David Gray, before settling into being a vehicle for Edwards and his songs. Over the next decade, Edwards fronted several (predominantly female) lineups of the band including guitarist Charley Stone (formerly of Gay Dad). They released a total of three studio albums between 2000-2008. Spearmint (band)
Spearmint are a London-based indie pop band, founded in 1995 by Shirley Lee. The group has received coverage in the ''NME'', ''Time Out'', ''Melody Maker'' and ''Uncut'' magazines. The original lineup included founder Shirley Lee (guitar and lead vocals), Simon Calnan (keyboard and backing vocals), Ronan Larvor (drums), and Martin Talbot (bass guitar). Forming their own record label (which they named ''hitBack''), the group released their earliest songs as vinyl white labels. James Parsons replaced Talbot before the release of the band's second single, "Goldmine". Dickon Edwards joined as second guitarist around the time of the album ''A Week Away''. Martin White (comedian)
Martin White is an English musician, comedian and animator. As well as performing solo with an accordion around the London comedy circuit, White also fronts the Mystery Fax Machine Orchestra and the Karaoke Circus live bands. He performs jingles regularly in the comedy podcast Answer Me This!. Helena Johansson
Helena ''Viktoria'' Johansson is a Swedish screenwriter and singer-songwriter. Helena was born and raised in Stockholm, Sweden. She started singing at a very early age and in her teens also began writing her own music. After graduating from Kulturama in Stockholm (the leading school of performing arts in Scandinavia) she started performing her original music at clubs and other venues in Stockholm. During 2006–2012 Helena lived in Nashville Tennessee to pursue a career in music. She wanted to develop her songwriting skills among the best songwriters in the world. Heavenly (British Band)
Heavenly were a twee pop band, originally forming in Oxford, England in 1989. Amelia Fletcher (vocals/guitar), Mathew Fletcher (drums; Amelia's brother), Peter Momtchiloff (guitar) and Robert Pursey (bass) had all been members of Talulah Gosh, a key member of the C86 scene. History Heavenly debuted with the 7" single "I Fell in Love Last Night", followed by another 7", "Our Love Is Heavenly", both released in 1990 on Sarah Records. '' Heavenly vs. Satan'', the group's debut album, came out in 1991. At this stage in their career, the instrumentation remained very much the same jangly guitar style used by Talulah Gosh. Talulah Gosh
Talulah Gosh were an English guitar-pop group from Oxford, and one of the leading bands of the indiepop movement, taking their name from the headline of an NME interview with Clare Grogan. They supposedly formed in 1986 when Amelia Fletcher and Elizabeth Price, both wearing Pastels badges, met at a club in Oxford. Their original line-up comprised Amelia Fletcher (vocals, guitar, principal songwriter), her younger brother Mathew Fletcher (drums), Peter Momtchiloff (lead guitar), Rob Pursey (bass) and Elizabeth Price (vocals). Pursey left early on, to be replaced by Chris Scott. Peter Momtchiloff
Peter Momtchiloff (born 10 March 1962) is a British guitarist and bassist. He was educated at Winchester College and Worcester College, Oxford. His musical career began in 1978 playing bass guitar in Winchester band The Big Figure. At Oxford he continued as a bass player and vocalist in Ron and His Beat Busters (under the name Miguel Horton) and Communist Alliance. These outfits played a combination of cover versions and original material with new wave, R&B and rockabilly influences. As a guitarist he played in country blues trio The Shovel Robinson King Biscuit Country Blue Band. Momtchiloff was a founding member of the seminal twee pop bands Talulah Gosh, Heavenly, and its later incarnation Marine Research. In 1999, he joined Jessica Griffin in her band the Would-Be-Goods.
