Saxon Steam Railway Company
The Saxon Steam Railway Company (''Sächsische Dampfeisenbahngesellschaft mbH'' or SDG), formerly the BVO Bahn, is a German railway company in Saxony, that operates several Saxon narrow gauge railways. The SDG is a subsidiary of the BVO Verkehrsbetriebe Erzgebirge (''BVO'') and the Verkehrsverbund Oberelbe (''VVO''). History The ''BVO Bahn'' was founded in 1998 when the Deutsche Bahn wanted to get rid of the narrow gauge Fichtelberg Railway (''Fichtelbergbahn'') from Cranzahl to the spa resort of Oberwiesenthal. On 4 May 1998 they took over the route. In order to gain more customers for this hitherto unprofitable line, daily steam locomotive services were implemented particularly to attract tourists. Initially it was even intended to extend the line to nearby Annaberg, but this plan could not be realised for financial reasons. Moritzburg Castle
Moritzburg Castle (german: Schloss Moritzburg) or Moritzburg Palace is a Baroque palace in Moritzburg, in the German state of Saxony, about northwest of the Saxon capital, Dresden. The castle has four round towers and lies on a symmetrical artificial island. It is named after Duke Moritz of Saxony, who had a hunting lodge built there between 1542 and 1546. ''Today's Railways Europe'' is an English-based monthly magazine covering rail transport in Europe. It was founded by Platform 5 in July 1994. Initially published bimonthly, from August 1997 it was published monthly. It also covered rail transport in Great Britain, and was named simply ''Today's Railways'', until a sister publication ''Entrain'' (later ''Today's Railways UK'') was launched in 2002, and from then on ''Today's Railways Europe'' concentrated on rail transport in Continental Europe. The Weißeritz Valley Railway (german: Weißeritztalbahn) is a steam operated narrow gauge railway in Saxony, Germany. The line connects Freital, near Dresden, with the spa of Kipsdorf in the Ore Mountains, and follows the valley of the Red Weißeritz. Moritzburg, Saxony
Moritzburg is a municipality in the district of Meissen in Saxony, Germany, between Meissen itself, an early centre of Saxony, and today's capital Dresden. It is most famous for its Baroque castle, Schloss Moritzburg. The village, which was originally known as Eisenburg, was first mentioned in 1294. It became a market in 1675. The Saxon state stud has been located here since 1828. In 1884, a narrow gauge railway, the Radebeul-Radeburg line, was built connecting the town to the district capital Radebeul and Radeburg.
