Saw (franchise)
''Saw'' is a horror franchise created by Australian film makers James Wan and Leigh Whannell, consisting of nine feature films and additional media. Set in an unnamed city in the United States, the first eight films primarily revolve around the fictional serial killer John "Jigsaw" Kramer, while the ninth movie revolves around a copycat killer while still keeping continuity with the previous films. John Kramer was introduced briefly in ''Saw'' and developed in more detail in ''Saw II'' and the subsequent films. Rather than killing his victims outright, he traps them in life-threatening situations that he calls "tests" or "games" to test their will to survive through physical or psychological torture, believing that if they survive, they will be "rehabilitated". James Wan
James Wan (born 26 February 1977) is an Australian director, producer, screenwriter and comic book writer. He has primarily worked in the horror genre as the co-creator of the ''Saw'' and ''Insidious'' franchises and the creator of The Conjuring Universe. The lattermost is the highest-grossing horror franchise, at over $2 billion. Wan is also the founder of film and television production company Atomic Monster Productions. Beginning his career with the ''Saw'' franchise, Wan made his feature directorial debut with its first film in 2004. Saw II
''Saw II'' is a 2005 horror film directed by Darren Lynn Bousman and written by Leigh Whannell and Bousman. It is the sequel to 2004's ''Saw'' and the second installment in the ''Saw'' film series. The film stars Donnie Wahlberg, Franky G, Glenn Plummer, Beverley Mitchell, Dina Meyer, Emmanuelle Vaugier, Erik Knudsen, Shawnee Smith, and Tobin Bell. In the film, a group of ex-convicts are trapped by the Jigsaw Killer inside a house and must pass a series of deadly tests to retrieve the antidote for a nerve agent that will kill them in two hours. Marcus Dunstan
Marcus Dunstan is an American screenwriter and director who, along with Patrick Melton, wrote screenplay for the film ''Feast'', which was the winner of Season Three of the filmmaking competition reality TV series ''Project Greenlight''. Dunstan has since written the screenplays for ''Feast'', '' Feast II: Sloppy Seconds'', '' Feast III: The Happy Finish'', ''The Collector'', '' The Collection'', ''Saw IV'', ''Saw V'', ''Saw VI'', and ''Saw 3D'', and in some cases, making cameo appearances in those films as well. Patrick Melton is an American screenwriter, producer and novelist. Film career In 2004, Melton won the third season of Project Greenlight, along with Marcus Dunstan and John Gulager. The television show premiered on Bravo and resulted in the horror/comedy film ''Feast'' and two sequels followed, '' Feast II: Sloppy Seconds'' and '' Feast III: The Happy Finish''. However, it was Melton's involvement with the '' Saw series'', that brought him worldwide recognition and international box office success. Identical twin brothers Peter Spierig and Michael Spierig (), known collectively as the Spierig Brothers, are German-Australian film directors, producers, and screenwriters. Kevin Greutert (born March 31, 1965) is an American film director, film editor and writer, best known for his work on the ''Saw'' film series, as well as character-based supernatural horrors. He is married to actress Elizabeth Rowin. Career Greutert was the film editor for '' The Strangers'' (2008), '' Room 6'' (2006), and ''Journey to the End of the Night'' (2006). David Hackl
David Hackl is a Canadian film director and production designer. Life and career Hackl was the production designer and second unit director for ''Saw II'', ''Saw III'', and ''Saw IV''; as well as for ''Repo! The Genetic Opera''. He was in talks to direct ''Saw IV'', but Darren Lynn Bousman returned as the director.
