Savarona
The MV ''Savarona'' (also sometimes M/Y, for motor yacht) is the presidential yacht of the Republic of Turkey. She was the largest in the world when launched February 28, 1931, and remains, with a length of 136 m (446 ft), one of the world’s longest. Although owned by the Government of Turkey, she had been briefly leased out to Turkish businessman Kahraman Sadıkoğlu. However, upon orders of the Turkish Government her lease was terminated and she reverted to the Turkish State. The first time she was used again for an official reception was in March 2015. History Named for an African swan living in the Indian Ocean, the ship was designed by Gibbs & Cox for American heiress Emily Roebling Cadwalader, granddaughter of John A. Emily Roebling Cadwalader
Emily Margaretta Roebling Cadwalader (died May 15, 1941) was an American socialite and philanthropist, based in Philadelphia. She is best known as the owner of two historic yachts, the ''USS Sequoia'' and the ''MV Savarona''. Early life Emily Roebling was the daughter of Charles Gustavus Roebling and Sarah (or Sallie) Ormsby Mahon Roebling. Her father was an engineer, president of John A. Roebling's Sons, a steel wire and cable company. Her Prussian-born grandfather, John Augustus Roebling, was best known as the civil engineer behind the Brooklyn Bridge. Roebling was raised in Trenton, New Jersey. In 1905 she rescued her father's stable of horses during a fire, and assisted firefighters in their work. Kahraman Sadıkoğlu
Kahraman Sadıkoğlu is a Turkish businessman. He owns the Istanbul-based Sadikoglu Group. He paid for the restoration of one of the largest yachts in the world, the ''Savarona''. She was purchased by the Turkish government in 1938 for use as a presidential yacht by Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, but was later allowed to fall into disrepair after his death. Sadikoglu leased the vessel in 1989 from the Turkish government and invested 50 million dollars to restore its former beauty. Afterwards he rented her out for luxury cruises. The lease contract was rescinded after a media scandal in 2010 and the Turkish government took the ship back. In December 2005, Sadıkoğlu was kidnapped in the Iraqi port city of Umm Qasr by terrorists, who demanded a US$25 million ransom. Blohm+Voss (B+V), also written historically as Blohm & Voss, Blohm und Voß etc., is a German shipbuilding and engineering company. Founded in Hamburg in 1877 to specialise in steel-hulled ships, its most famous product was the World War II battleship '' Bismarck''. Kanlıca is a neighbourhood on the Asian side of the Bosphorus strait, in the Beykoz district of Istanbul Province, Turkey. ''Gold'' is a 1934 German science fiction film directed by Karl Hartl. The film involves a British scientist who is attempting to create a device that turns base materials into gold.
