Savage Species
''Savage Species'' is a sourcebook for use as a supplement in the 3rd edition of the ''Dungeons & Dragons'' game, detailing the use of monstrous races as PC races. Contents ''Savage Species'' introduces classes and outlines rules for playing monstrous races as player characters, and introduces taking racial levels in the player character's race instead of in a given class. Publication history ''Savage Species'' was written by David Eckelberry, Rich Redman, and Jennifer Clarke Wilkes, and was published in 2003. Cover art was by Jeff Easley, with interior art by Dennis Cramer, Brian Despain, Emily Fiegenschuh, Jeremy Jarvis, John and Laura Lakey, Alan Pollack, Vinod Rams, Wayne Reynolds, David Roach, Scott Roller, Mark Sasso, Arnie Swekel and Sam Wood. A role-playing game (sometimes spelled roleplaying game, RPG) is a game in which players assume the roles of player character, characters in a fictional Setting (narrative), setting. Players take responsibility for acting out these roles within a narrative, either through literal acting or through a process of structured decision-making regarding character development. Jeremy Jarvis is an artist whose work has appeared in role-playing games. Early life and education Jeremy Jarvis grew up in a small town in Alabama, and moved to New York City right after high school just before his eighteenth birthday. A non-player character (NPC), or non-playable character, is any character in a game that is not controlled by a player. The term originated in traditional tabletop role-playing games where it applies to characters controlled by the gamemaster or referee rather than by another player. In video games, this usually means a character controlled by the computer (instead of a player) that has a predetermined set of behaviors that potentially will impact gameplay, but will not necessarily be the product of true artificial intelligence. Sam Wood is an artist whose work has appeared in role-playing games. Works Sam Wood did his first work for Wizards of the Coast in 1995, and later became a staff illustrator. Wood's earliest work in the game industry was for the ''BattleTech'' TCG, and he went on to work on games like ''Dungeons & Dragons'', ''Magic: The Gathering'', ''Alternity'', ''Doomtown'', ''Legend of the Five Rings'', and ''Chainmail''. Arnie Swekel
Arnie Swekel is an artist whose work has appeared in role-playing games. Background Swekel was born May 2, 1964, and grew up in River Rouge, Michigan. After graduating high school he briefly attended The Center for Creative Studies (now called College for Creative Studies) in Detroit but left after only one semester. Swekel's interest in art continued unabated, however and, while largely self-taught, began his career as a professional artist at age 27. Swekel currently works as a principal artist at the computer game company Raven Software and lives in the Madison Wisconsin area with his wife and three children. David Roach is a British comic book artist and writer based in Wales, United Kingdom.
