Satara (city)
Satara () (ISO: Sātārā) is a city located in the Satara District of Maharashtra state of India, near the confluence of the river Krishna and its tributary, the Venna. The city was established in the 16th century and was the seat of the Chhatrapati of Maratha Empire, Shahu I. It is the headquarters of Satara Tehsil, as well as the Satara District. The city gets its name from the seven forts (Sat-Tara) which are around the city. The city is known as a Soldier's city as well as Pensioner's city. History The first Muslim invasion of the Deccan took place in 1296. In 1636, the Nizam Shahi dynasty came to an end. In 1663, Chattrapati Shivaji conquered Parali and Satara fort. After the death of Shivaji, Shahu Shivaji, heir apparent to the Maratha Empire, captured by Mughals when he was only seven years old, remained their prisoner till the death of his father in 1700. Satara railway station is the main railway station in the Satara district, in the city of Satara, Maharashtra. Its code is STR. The station lies on the Pune–Miraj line of the Central Railways and is administered by the Pune Railway Division. Design The station consists of three platforms. Connection This railway station connects Satara with major Indian cities such as Mumbai, Pune, Bengaluru, Nagpur, Miraj, Kolhapur, Ahmedabad, Jaipur, Delhi, Goa, and Dhanbad through express trains. There is need of Satara - Thoseghar or Kas - Chiplun new railway line from Koyna Wildlife Sanctuary. This line would connect Satara city with the Konkan region. Also there is need of Satara - Pusegaon - Mhaswad - Pandharpur - Mohol - Solapur new railway line. Satara Melonie Murray (born 1 July 1993) is a Jamaican professional footballer who plays as a defender for Racing Louisville of the American National Women's Soccer League (NWSL). She has previously played for English clubs Liverpool and Bristol City, Houston Dash of the NWSL, and Kolbotn Fotball of the Norwegian Toppserien. Born in New York and raised in Texas, Murray won a collegiate national championship with North Carolina Tar Heels before starting her professional career in 2015 with Liverpool of the FA Women's Super League. She spent four years with Liverpool before joining Houston Dash on a free transfer. Collegiate career Murray had a stellar collegiate career, appearing 85 times for the North Carolina Tar Heels. She was instrumental in helping UNC win its 21st national championship in 2012.
