Saskatchewan ( ; ) is a province in western Canada, bordered on the west by Alberta, on the north by the Northwest Territories, on the east by Manitoba, to the northeast by Nunavut, and on the south by the U.S. states of Montana and North Dakota. Saskatchewan and Alberta are the only landlocked provinces of Canada. In 2022, Saskatchewan's population was estimated at 1,205,119. Dave McGrane
David Patrick McGrane (born October 22, 1977) is a Canadian professor, political scientist and community activist living in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. Early life and background Born in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, McGrane attended Campion College, University of Regina, where he completed a BA in Political Science with High Honours (1999). Subsequently, he obtained an MA in Political Science from York University (2000) and a PhD in Political Science from Carleton University (2007). Academic career McGrane moved to Saskatoon when he was appointed assistant professor of political studies at St. Thomas More College, University of Saskatchewan in 2007. He was appointed associate professor in 2012 and full professor in 2020. His research interests are primarily in the areas of Canadian public policy, elections, and political parties. The 29th Saskatchewan Legislature was elected at the 2020 Saskatchewan general election. Notably, this is the first Saskatchewan Legislature in which some government members will sit on the Speaker's left. Saskatchewan Party
The Saskatchewan Party is a centre-right political party in the Canadian province of Saskatchewan. Since 2007, it has been the province's governing party; both the party and the province are currently led by Premier Scott Moe. The party was established in 1997 by a coalition of former provincial Progressive Conservative and Liberal party members and supporters who sought to remove the Saskatchewan New Democratic Party (NDP) from power. The Saskatchewan Party served as the province's Official Opposition until the provincial election on November 7, 2007. 2016 Saskatchewan General Election
The 2016 Saskatchewan general election, was held on April 4, 2016, to elect members of the Legislative Assembly of Saskatchewan. The Lieutenant Governor dissolved the Legislature on March 8, 2016, setting the election date for April 4. The election resulted in the Saskatchewan Party winning its third majority government. This is the first time in 90 years that a party other than the Saskatchewan New Democratic Party (NDP) or its predecessor, the Saskatchewan Co-operative Commonwealth Federation (CCF) has won three consecutive majority governments in Saskatchewan. It is also the first time that a centre-right party has won three consecutive elections in the province. The Legislative Assembly of Saskatchewan is the legislative chamber of the Saskatchewan Legislature in the province of Saskatchewan, Canada. Bills passed by the assembly are given royal assent by the Lieutenant Governor of Saskatchewan, in the name of the King in Right of Saskatchewan. The assembly meets at the Saskatchewan Legislative Building in Regina. There are 61 constituencies in the province, which elect members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) to the Legislative Assembly. All are single-member districts, though the cities of Regina, Saskatoon and Moose Jaw were in the past represented through multi-member districts, with members elected through Block Voting.
