Sasami Ashworth (born June 23, 1990), known mononymously as Sasami, is an American musician who records music in a variety of styles, from singer-songwriter ballads to heavy metal and industrial. She began her career as a member of Cherry Glazerr but went solo in 2018. Her most recent album, '' Squeeze'', was released in 2022. Career Early life Sasami Ashworth comes from a Zainichi family. After shei graduated from the Eastman School of Music in 2012, she scored and made orchestral arrangements for films, commercials and studio albums, and worked as a music teacher in Los Angeles, where she is currently based. In 2015, she joined the American rock band Cherry Glazerr with whom she played synths and toured for two and a half years before announcing her departure in January 2018 to pursue her solo musical career. ''Sasami'' is the debut studio album by American singer-songwriter and musician Sasami, released on March 8, 2019, through Domino. Background and release On April 3, 2018, Sasami shared her first solo track "Callous" on SoundCloud. On October 9, Domino Recording Company announced that Sasami had signed to their label, and officially released "Callous" alongside a new song titled "Not the Time", premiered by ''The Fader''. The songs were released on a 7" vinyl on October 26. On January 9, Sasami released the third single, "Jealousy", and its music video, alongside an announcement of the album and a pre-order. A fourth single, "Free" featuring Devendra Banhart, was released on February 14, before the album was released on March 8 on Domino. The album marks a transition from the singer-songwriter style of Sasami's debut album to a harder rock sound that incorporates heavy metal and industrial influences. Cherry Glazerr is an American rock band from Los Angeles, formed in 2013. The current lineup consists of guitarist and lead vocalist Clementine Creevy, bassist Sami Perez and drummer Tabor Allen. The band's sound has transitioned from lo-fi and garage rock on their debut release ''Haxel Princess'' in 2014 to a more polished rock sound, with elements of grunge, punk and new wave on their subsequent releases '' Apocalipstick'' and '' Stuffed & Ready''. The Eastman School of Music is the music school of the University of Rochester, a private research university in Rochester, New York. Indie rock is a Music subgenre, subgenre of rock music that originated in the United States, United Kingdom and New Zealand from the 1970s to the 1980s. Menace Beach are a five-piece indie rock band from Leeds, England. Ryan Needham from the band, is also a member of Yard Act. Biography Menace Beach were formed by core members Ryan Needham (currently the bass player in Leeds band Yard Act) and Liza Violet (formerly of Department M) in 2012. Although the band have a revolving cast of musicians, it has invariably included Nestor Matthews (previously of Sky Larkin), Matt Spalding and Nick Chantler (of Seize The Chair). They have also played with MJ of Hookworms, Robert Lee of Pulled Apart By Horses and Paul Draper of Mansun, who provided backing vocals and guitar on their BBC Radio 6 Music Marc Riley session.
