Sarja (film)
''Sarja'' ( mr, सर्जा) is a Marathi film, directed by Rajdutt. It is based on a novel Shelar Khind by Marathi writer Babasaheb Purandare. It is a story of a young brave man and his wife, who assist Maratha Shivaji and his forces in capturing a fort from a Mughal Sardar. ''Sarja'' has drawn many accolades. The film won the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Marathi for the year 1987, for its patriotic vigour in the retelling of a story set during the turbulent times of Shivaji. Plot The Mughal emperor Aurangzeb orders his forces to march south towards the Maratha kingdom. Shivaji agrees for a truce with the Mughals. As a part of the treaty, Shivaji handovers many forts to Mughals. In a vicinity of one such fort, live a Dombari widow Gauri Dombarin (Seema Deo) and her daughter Kastura, who earn their livelihood by performing various acrobatic street stunts. The National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Marathi is one of the National Film Awards presented annually by the Directorate of Film Festivals, the organisation set up by Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, India. It is one of several awards presented for feature films and awarded with Rajat Kamal (Silver Lotus). The National Film Awards, established in 1954, are the most prominent film awards in India that merit the best of the Indian cinema. Shivaji
Shivaji Bhonsale I (; 19 February 1630 – 3 April 1680), also referred to as Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, was an Indian ruler and a member of the Bhonsle Maratha clan. Shivaji carved out his own independent kingdom from the declining Adilshahi sultanate of Bijapur which formed the genesis of the Maratha Empire. Bahirji Naik
Bahirji Naik, (original name Bhairavnath Jadhav), was a 17th century Indian spy and military commander in the army of Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj at a time when the Maratha Empire and Mughal Empire were at war. He was honoured by Shivaji maharaj with the title "Naik" for his great works in Intelligence. He was a Maratha fighter, whose members were known for their resilience and as strong fighters. As Shivaji maharaj ’s Chief of Intelligence, he was very successful in his methods. His tomb is currently situated on Bhupalgad (Banurgad) in Khanapur taluka of Sangli district. Babasaheb Purandare
Balwant Moreshwar Purandare (29 July 1922 – 15 November 2021), popularly known as Babasaheb Purandare, was an Indian historian and theatre personality from Maharashtra, India. He was awarded the Padma Vibhushan, India's highest second-civilian award on 25 January 2019. His works are mostly based on the events related to the life of Shivaji maharaj, the 17th-century founder of the Maratha Empire; as a result he is termed as ''Shiv-Shahir'' ("Shivaji's bard"). He is mostly known for his popular play on Shivaji ''Jaanta Raja'' which was popular not only in Maharashtra but also in Andhra Pradesh and Goa.
