Administrative Divisions Of Azerbaijan
Azerbaijan is administratively divided into 66 districts () and 11 cities () that are subordinate to the Republic. Out of these, 7 districts and 1 city is located within the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic. The districts are further divided into municipalities (). Absheron Rayon
Absheron District () is one of the 66 districts of Azerbaijan. It is located in the east of the country and belongs to the Absheron-Khizi Economic Region. The district borders the districts of Khizi, Gobustan, Baku, Hajigabul, Salyan, and the city of Sumgait. Its capital and largest city is Khyrdalan. As of 2020, the district had a population of 214,100. Although the district shares the same name as the Absheron Peninsula, the area covered by the district is not conterminous, being further west and mostly inland. Xırdalan
Xırdalan () is a city, municipality and the capital of the Absheron District of Azerbaijan. It has a population of 95,200. Khyrdalan is home of country's biggest brewery ''Baltika Baku'', previously known as Khyrdalan . A monument to Egyptian president Hosni Mubarak was erected in 2007 in the city. Similarly, a statue of Heydar Aliyev was erected in Cairo in 2008. In the wake of the 2011 Egyptian protests, the Azerbaijani opposition, led by the Musavat Party, demanded the demolition of the statue, calling it a "worship of idols". On 8 June 2011, the statue was taken down following Mubarak's resignation. On 29 November 2006, the settlement gained city status after its approval by the National Assembly of Azerbaijan. Mikayil Alakbarov
Mikayil Mahammad oglu Alakbarov (; 192413 October 1943) was an Azerbaijani Red Army man and a posthumous Hero of the Soviet Union. Alakbarov was posthumously awarded the title on 26 October 1943 for his actions during the Battle of the Dnieper, during which he reportedly repulsed 14 counterattacks and was seriously wounded. Early life Alakbarov was born in 1924 in Saray in the family of an oil worker. His childhood and youth were spent in Baku. After finishing his education, Alakbarov became an oil worker. World War II In 1942, Alakbarov was drafted into the Red Army. He fought in combat from April 1943 and became a scout in the 79th Guards Reconnaissance Company of the 81st Guards Rifle Division. The title Hero of the Soviet Union (russian: Герой Советского Союза, translit=Geroy Sovietskogo Soyuza) was the highest distinction in the Soviet Union, awarded together with the Order of Lenin personally or collectively for heroic feats in service to the Soviet state and society. Vali Yusif oghlu Akhundov ( az, Вәли Јусиф оғлу Ахундов, italic=no, Vəli Yusif oğlu Axundov; – 22 August 1986), also spelled as Vali Akhundov, was the 10th First Secretary of Azerbaijan Communist Party, politician and scientist. Early life Akhundov was born in Baku, in the Baku Governorate of the Russian Empire in 1916.
