Sarah Sjöström
Sarah Fredrika Sjöström (; born 17 August 1993) is a Swedish competitive swimmer specialising in the sprint freestyle and butterfly events. She is the current world record holder in the 50 metre freestyle (long course), the 100 metre freestyle (long course), the 50 metre butterfly (long course), the 100 metre butterfly (long course), and the 4×50 metre medley relay (short course). She is a former world record holder in the 50 metre freestyle (short course), 100 metre freestyle (short course), 100 metre butterfly (short course), and 200 metre freestyle (short course). She is the first Swedish woman to win an Olympic gold medal in swimming. She won the Overall Swimming World Cup in 2017 and 2018. In 2022, she became the first swimmer representing a country in Europe to win 10 individual World Championships gold medals. Butterfly Stroke
The butterfly (colloquially shortened to fly) is a swimming stroke swum on the chest, with both arms moving symmetrically, accompanied by the butterfly kick (also known as the "dolphin kick"). While other styles like the breaststroke, front crawl, or backstroke can be swum adequately by beginners, the butterfly is a more difficult stroke that requires good technique as well as strong muscles. It is the newest swimming style swum in competition, first swum in 1933 and originating out of the breaststroke. Speed and ergonomics The peak speed of the butterfly is faster than that of the front crawl due to the synchronous pull/push with both arms and legs, which is done quickly. Yet since speed drops significantly during the recovery phase, it is overall slightly slower than front crawl, especially over longer distances. The Swimming portion of the 13th FINA World Aquatics Championships was held at the Foro Italico sports complex in Rome, Italy from Sunday 26 July – Sunday 2 August 2009. 2022 World Aquatics Championships
The 2022 World Aquatics Championships, the 19th edition of the FINA World Aquatics Championships, were held in Budapest, Hungary, from 17 June to 3 July 2022. In March 2022, after the Russian invasion of Ukraine, FINA banned both the Russian and Belarusian nationals from entering the championships. Host selection Originally, Budapest was selected to host the 2021 World Aquatics Championships. However, after Guadalajara, Mexico, pulled out from the organization of the 2017 Championships, the city took the responsibility for hosting the event, since the infrastructure was already fully ready. Consequently, the application process for the 2021 edition was reopened and the event was relocated to Fukuoka, Japan, and was scheduled to be held between 16 July to August 1, 2021. The 16th FINA World Championships (russian: Чемпионат мира по водным видам спорта 2015), also Aquatics 2015, were held in Kazan, Russia from 24 July to 9 August 2015. Russia hosted this event for the first time. The number of participating national teams (190), athletes (2,400) and the number of medals (75) were the most ever amongst these championships.
