Santragachi, or Santragachhi, is a residential neighbourhood in Howrah, Howrah district, West Bengal, India. It is a part of the area covered by Kolkata Metropolitan Development Authority (KMDA). Santragachi Junction in Santragachi is one of the five intercity railway junctions of Howrah-Kolkata, which serves as a railway junction-cum-terminus for the South Eastern Railway. Kona Expressway in Santragachi is one of the major and fastest roads to enter Kolkata. Lesser Whistling Duck
The lesser whistling duck (''Dendrocygna javanica''), also known as Indian whistling duck or lesser whistling teal, is a species of whistling duck that breeds in the Indian subcontinent and Southeast Asia. They are nocturnal feeders that during the day may be found in flocks around lakes and wet paddy fields. They can perch on trees and sometimes build their nest in the hollow of a tree. This brown and long-necked duck has broad wings that are visible in flight and produces a loud two-note wheezy call. It has a chestnut rump, differentiating it from its larger relative, the fulvous whistling duck, which has a creamy white rump. Description This chestnut brown duck is confusable only with the fulvous whistling duck (''D. bicolor'') but has chestnut upper-tail coverts unlike the creamy white in the latter. Santragachi Kedarnath Institution (or Santragachi K.N. Institution) is a Government- sponsored, Bengali medium, higher secondary school located in Howrah in the state of West Bengal, India. The first vernacular Bengali medium school of Howrah district, ''Santragachi Minor School'', that was originally founded by Kedarnath Bhattacharya in 1857, was upgraded to Santragachi Kedarnath Institution in 1925. Varendra ( bn, বরেন্দ্র), also known as Barind ( bn, বারিন্দ, link=no), was a region of North Bengal, now mostly in Bangladesh and a little portion in the Indian state of West Bengal. It formed part of the Pundravardhana or Pundra Kingdom region currently part of Rangpur and Rajshahi Divisions of Bangladesh and included the districts of Bogra, Rajshahi, Pabna and Dinajpur of Bangladesh and West Dinajpur of India. Santragachi Junction railway station (station code: SRC) is a railway junction in South Eastern Railway Zone of Indian Railways, situated in Santragachhi, Howrah, India. It is one of five intercity railway stations serving Howrah and Kolkata. The station is operated by Indian Railways South Eastern Railway (SER) zone. SER serves local trains to Amta, Mecheda, Panskura, Haldia, Kharagpur and Medinipur and mail/express trains to Central, West and South India. Whilst the station had existed for many years on the line to Howrah railway station, further development was started to upgrade it to a railway terminal in 2015. SER wished to use it for their long-distance trains which would otherwise have to go to the crowded Howrah station which is operated by Eastern Railway.
