Santa Lucía, Uruguay
Santa Lucía () is a city in the Canelones Department of southern Uruguay. Santa Lucía is also the name of the municipality to which the city belongs. Location The city is located on the intersection of Route 11 with Route 63, about northwest of the centre of Montevideo. The river Río Santa Lucía, after which the city is named, flows along the northwestern limits of the city. History Santa Lucía was founded in 1782 with the name of ''Villa San Juan Bautista''. It had acquired the status of "Villa" (town) before the Independence of Uruguay. On 15 June 1925, its status was elevated to "Ciudad" (city) by the Act of Ley Nº 7.837. Population According to the 2011 census, Santa Lucía had a population of 16,742. In 2010, the ''Intendencia de Canelones'' estimated a population of 18,346 for the municipality during the elections. Eugenio Figueredo
Eugenio Hermes Figueredo Aguerre (born 10 March 1932 in Santa Lucía, Uruguay) is a Uruguayan and American association football executive and former footballer. In May 2015, he was banned by FIFA Ethics Committee. Biography As a footballer, Figueredo played for Huracan Buceo as a right-half. He went on to serve as its president between 1971 and 1972, and again between 1976 and 77. From 1997–2006, he presided over the Uruguayan Football Association, and from 1993 until 2013 he was vice president of CONMEBOL. In April 2013 he replaced Nicolás Leoz as President. On 27 May 2015, Figueredo was arrested in Switzerland as the result of an FBI investigation into corruption in FIFA. In addition, the FIFA Ethics Committee found Figueredo to be guilty of taking bribes in 2004 and 2015 in connection with trade agreements for South American tournaments. Walter Santoro
Walter Santoro Baratçabal (April 29, 1922 – April 29, 2011) was a Uruguayan lawyer and politician who served as the Minister of Labour and Social Security of his nation from 1963 to 1964. He also served as the interim President of Uruguay for a brief period of time during Luis Alberto Lacalle's presidency. Biography Walter Santoro was a member of the National Party, and he played a key role before and after the coup d'etat of 1973. Clemente Estable
Clemente Estable (23 May 1894, Canelones – 27 October 1976, Montevideo) was a university professor and docent. He was a pioneer in the areas of cellular biology and neurobiology research. Estable was an educator, scientist and philosopher who left his mark on the intellectual collective thinking of his native land. Jorge Ángelo Paleso Carbajal (born July 24, 1983 in Santa Lucía), commonly known as Ángelo Paleso, is a Uruguayan footballer, who currently plays for Wanderers de Santa Lucía. Career Carbajal began his career with CA Peñarol and joined for the start of his senior career 2005 to Miramar Misiones. José Cancela
José Carlos Cancela Durán (born June 25, 1976) is a Uruguayan retired footballer who played as an attacking midfielder. He is nicknamed "Pepe". Before joining the Colorado Rapids, Cancela played the preseason with Toronto FC but was traded to the Denver-based club the day before the regular season began. Cancela played for Peñarol, Cruz Azul, Deportivo Saprissa, and the New England Revolution. He had to leave Saprissa, despite being loved by their fans, because of the rule implemented by the "Morados" after 2003, by which they could only use Costa Rican players in their team.
