Church of Saint Anthony Abbot ( it, Chiesa di Sant'Antonio Abate) is a Roman Catholic church in the town of Breno, in the province of Brescia, Lombardy, northern Italy. The church contains fragments of Frescos on three walls around the chancel by Girolamo Romani in collaboration with Daniele Mori, who also worked with him in Pisogne and Bienno. These frescos of scenes from the "Book of Daniel" are inspired by the grotesque and anti-classical artististic expression that pervades strongly in Valcamonica.G. Breno ( Camunian: ; obsolete german: Brenn) is an Italian comune of 4,986 inhabitants in Val Camonica, province of Brescia, in Lombardy. Geography It is bounded by other communes of Niardo, Bagolino, Bienno, Braone, Ceto, Cividate Camuno, Condino (TN), Daone (TN), Losine, Malegno, Niardo, Prestine. The town of Breno stands in a north-south gorge, between the castle hill and the Corno Cerreto, on the left bank of the river Oglio. According to professor Fedele the gorge was once the bed of the Oglio. History On top of the castle hill a house dating back to the Neolithic was discovered. In the locality Spinera, at the river Oglio, there is the Sanctuary of Minerva of the first century CE, which was ruined in the fifth century. His long career brought forth several different styles. Biography Romani was born in Brescia. His early training and life are not well documented. A Quattrocento-esque ''Pietà '', painted for the church of ''San Lorenzo'' of Brescia, dated from 1510, is exhibited in the Accademia. He took up residence in Venice in his twenties, at the latest by 1513. He was commissioned to complete a ''Madonna enthroned with four saints'' for the church of Santa Giustina in Padua in 1513. The coloration of the painting is of Venetian style, but the duller visages in bejeweled setting recalls styles of previous generations. Pisogne
Pisogne ( Camunian: ) is a ''comune'' of 8156 inhabitants in the province of Brescia, in Lombardy, Italy. Geography Pisogne is situated at the northern-east tip of Lake Iseo, where the river Oglio flows into the lake. It is the lowermost commune of the Val Camonica. Neighbouring communes are Marone, Pezzaze, Pian Camuno and Costa Volpino. History Pisogne is mentioned for the first time in 1227. In 1287 the great rebellion led by Camunian Federici noble family against the city of Brescia, was followed by the killing of several of Pisogne Guelphs resident there. Following this fact, the town was fortified between the 12th and 13th century and granted to the Brusati family. In 1518 eight witches were convicted of arson in Pisogne. On November 14, 1727, the bandit Giorgio Vicario, one of the most feared of Val Camonica "buli" (bandits), born in Pisogne in 1695, was murdered. Bienno ( Camunian: ) is an Italian ''comune'' in Val Camonica, province of Brescia, Lombardy, classed as one of the five most beautiful villages of Italy by the Council of Tourism of the Association of Italian Municipalities (ANCI). Geography The village is located in Val Grigna, on the northern side of the river Grigna.
