Sandra M. Macdonald
Sandra M. Macdonald is a Canadians, Canadian film and television executive. She has also held important administrative positions with the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) and the National Film Board of Canada (NFB). Macdonald was born in Prince Edward Island, and earned degrees in philosophy and communications from St. Francis Xavier University, Prince of Wales College and the University of Ottawa. Following her time at university, she worked as a theatrical producer and designer. She then became a partner in an independent film and television production company. In the 1980s she worked in various capacities for the Government of Canada, Canadian government's Department of Canadian Heritage, Department of Communications, before in 1990 she joined the CRTC as its Director-General of Television. Jacques Bensimon
Jacques Bensimon (August 26, 1943 – August 26, 2012) was a public film and television director, producer and executive in Canada, working primarily with the National Film Board of Canada (NFB) and TFO, the French-language network of TVOntario. From 2001 until 2006, he was president of the Cinémathèque québécoise in Montreal. Career In 1967, Bensimon began working at the NFB, as a scriptwriter, editor, director and producer. From 1986 to 2000 he was managing director of TFO, where he helped establish partnership and co-production agreements with major distributors all over the world such as the BBC, Arte and France Télévisions. Bensimon was named Government Film Commissioner and Chairperson of the NFB on April 26, 2001 for a five-year term, which was extended for six months and ended on December 17, 2006. Joan Pennefather
Joan Pennefather is a Canadian film and cultural executive. She was the first woman to be the Commissioner of the National Film Board of Canada (NFB). Early life Pennefather was born in Montreal, Quebec, and studied history and communications at Marianopolis College, McGill University, Concordia University and in the United Kingdom at the University of Oxford. Career Pennefather joined the NFB in 1977, working as a Sponsored Program Officer. In this capacity, she was responsible for producing films for various departments of the Canadian government, both in-house at the NFB and with independent production companies. In 1981, she was promoted to become the Executive Assistant to the Deputy Film Commissioner of the NFB, and two years later was appointed the organisation's Planning Co-ordinator. The Canadian Television Fund (CTF, french: Fonds canadien de télévision - FCT) supported the production and broadcast of Canadian television programs. ''My Grandmother Ironed the King's Shirts'' is a 1999 animated short by Torill Kove. Co-produced by Marcy Page of the National Film Board of Canada and Lars Tømmerbakke of Studio Magica in Norway, the film humorously recounts a tall tale about the filmmaker's grandmother in Oslo, Norway, during World War II, who actually ironed the shirts for Norway's King Haakon VII for many years. ''My Grandmother Ironed the King's Shirts'' was Kove's first film with the NFB. It began as a screenwriting exercise for a class at Concordia University, where Kove had been enrolled.
