San Sebastiano Curone (Piedmontese: ''San Bastiau Curou'' ) is a ''comune'' (municipality) in the Province of Alessandria in the Italian region Piedmont, located about southeast of Turin and about southeast of Alessandria, at the confluence of the Curone and Museglia streams. San Sebastiano Curone borders the following municipalities: Brignano-Frascata, Dernice, Gremiasco, and Montacuto. History Part of the commune of Fabbrica Curone it was under the dominations of the Malaspina and Fieschi from Genoa. In the 16th century, under the Doria, it became an important market centre for salt, fish and cereals. It is the birthplace of Felice Giani Felice Giani (17 December 1758 – 10 January 1823) was an Italian painter of the Neoclassic style. Fieschi
The Fieschi were a noble merchant family from Genoa, Italy, from whom descend the Fieschi Ravaschieri Princes of Belmonte. Of ancient origin, they took their name from the progenitor ''Ugo Fliscus'', descendants of the counts of Lavagna. The family had close ties with the Angevin kings of Sicily. Later they also established links with French kings. The Fieschi family produced two popes and 72 cardinals. Brignano-Frascata is a ''comune'' (municipality) in the Province of Alessandria in the Italy, Italian region Piedmont, located about east of Turin and about southeast of Alessandria. History Discoveries in Serra del Monte indicate the area was frequented in the Neolithic period. After the Lombards, Lombard period, the municipal territory of Brignano-Frascata was under the control of Bobbio Abbey, which added it to the monastic court of Casasco.
