San Roque Club
The San Roque Club is a country club and Gated Community located in San Roque, in the Andalusia region in Southern Spain, a few miles from Gibraltar. The Old course was designed by Dave Thomas and constructed in 1990. Renovations to the Old Course were completed in November 2020. The New course was added in 2002, and was designed by Perry Dye. The club hosted the Open de España in 2005 and 2006, and also hosts the Asprey Cup horse race. The Acciona Open de España (formerly the Spanish Open) is the national open golf championship of Spain. It was founded in 1912 and has been part of the European Tour's schedule since the inception of the Tour in 1972. Except for a five-year period in the early 1980s, the tournament has been played in April or May. In 2005, it was one of five European Tour events to be held in Spain. Dave Thomas (golfer)
David Charles Thomas (16 August 193427 August 2013) was a Welsh professional golfer and renowned golf course architect. Thomas was one of Britain's leading golfers during the 1950s and 1960s with many tournament victories around Europe, including the News of the World Match Play and the Belgian Open (golf), Belgian, Dutch Open (golf), Dutch and French Open (golf), French Open championships. San Roque, Cádiz
San Roque is a municipality of Spain belonging to the province of Cádiz, which in turn is part of the autonomous community of Andalusia. It is also part of the of Campo de Gibraltar. Located in the southern end of the Iberian Peninsula, San Roque is a short way inland of the north side of the Bay of Gibraltar, to the north of the Gibraltar peninsula. The municipality has a total surface of 145 km2 with a population of approximately 25,500 people, as of 2005. The foundation of San Roque as a city owes to the creation of a sort of Gibraltar-in-exile by refugees fleeing from the Rock in the wake of its seizure by Anglo-Dutch forces in 1704. Golf is a club-and-ball sport in which players use various clubs to hit balls into a series of holes on a course in as few strokes as possible.
