San Antonio Museum Of Art
The San Antonio Museum of Art (SAMA) is an art museum in Downtown San Antonio, Texas, USA. The museum spans 5,000 years of global culture. The museum is housed in the historic former Lone Star Brewery (1886) on the Museum Reach of the San Antonio River Walk. Following a $7.2 million renovation, it opened to the public in March 1981. History In 1926, the San Antonio Museum Association founded the Witte Memorial Museum with the intentions of collecting various works of art and natural history objects. By the 1970s, the Witte Memorial Museum acquired notable works of art by artists such as Frank Stella, Wayne Thiebaud, and Philip Guston. Due to the growing pace of art acquisitions, Jack McGregor (former director of the San Antonio Museum Association) recommended the board purchase the former Lone Star Brewery complex and split away from the Witte Memorial Museum. Texas Transportation Company
The Texas Transportation Company was an electrified, Class III, short-line railroad in San Antonio, Texas, that operated from 1897 until 2001. It served the Pearl Brewery and several other businesses, moving carloads between those businesses and the Southern Pacific yard. Service ended on June 30, 2000, shortly before the Pabst Brewing Company closed the Pearl Brewery, in early 2001. History The Texas Transportation Company was founded in 1887 as a private company. It was chartered on September 24, 1897. It served more than 20 customers at its peak, including the Lone Star Brewing Company and the Pearl Brewery. Bonnie MacLeary
Bonnie MacLeary (sometimes McLeary, which is how she signed her work) (January 2, 1886 – February 2, 1971) was an American sculptor. Some sources give her date of birth as 1890, 1892, or 1898. Early life MacLeary was born in San Antonio, Texas, the youngest of four children of James Harvey MacLeary and his wife, Mary; at six she began creating sculptures with clay from the banks of the San Antonio River. At her parents' divorce she was taken in by her grandparents, Valentine and Helen King, who took her to New York City in 1901. She began studies there with William Merritt Chase before traveling to Paris, where in 1903 she was studying with William Adolphe Bouguereau at the Académie Julien. She also studied miniature painting in Siena before returning to New York.
