Sammy Harkham
Sammy Harkham (born May 21, 1980) is an American cartoonist and editor, best known for editing the ''Kramers Ergot'' alternative comics anthology. His current work can be found in the comic ''Crickets'', which was published by Drawn & Quarterly for its first two issues but is now self-published. He is the co-owner of the Family Bookstore in Los Angeles, and the co-founder of Cinefamily (now known as Fairfax Cinema). His father is developer Uri Harkham. Kramers Ergot
''Kramers Ergot'' is a series of anthology-style books of comic art edited by Sammy Harkham. Publication history ''Kramers Ergot'' started as a mini-comic self-published by Sammy Harkham under the imprint Avodah Books. Issues 4 and 5 were published by Gingko Press, while issues 6 and 7 were published by Buenaventura Press. Published in November 2008, ''Kramers Ergot'' 7 features almost 60 artists and is larger (16" by 21") and more expensive ($125) than previous editions. An eighth volume was released in January 2012 from PictureBox. A ninth volume was released in April 2016 from Fantagraphics Books. A tenth volume was released in July 2019 from Fantagraphics Books. Drawn & Quarterly is a publishing company based in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, specializing in comics. It publishes primarily comic books, graphic novels and comic strip collections. Cinefamily
The Cinefamily was a non-profit cinematheque located in West Hollywood, California, at the historic Silent Movie Theatre. The Cinefamily's mission statement was to "reinvigorate the movie-going experience by fostering a spirit of community and a sense of discovery." Cinefamily followed a member-based ticketing system by which a tax-deductible donation provided universal access to all screenings and events. There was an individual ticket system in effect for non-members or those who did not make a pledge commitment. The Cinefamily was open from 2007 to 2017, when it closed due to a sexual harassment allegation. In 2019, the theatre was reopened as Fairfax Cinema. The Ignatz Awards recognize outstanding achievements in comics and cartooning by small press creators or creator-owned projects published by larger publishers. They have been awarded each year at the Small Press Expo since 1997, only skipping a year in 2001 due to the show's cancellation after the September 11 attacks.
