Samal Yeslyamova
Samal Ilyaskyzy Yeslyamova ( kk, Самал Ілиясқызы Есләмова, ''Samal Iliiasqyzy Eslämova''; born 1 September 1984) is a Kazakh film actress. She is recognized internationally for starring in the film ''Ayka'' directed by Sergey Dvortsevoy, which won her the award for Best Actress at the Cannes Film Festival in 2018. Biography Yeslyamova was born in Petropavl, North Kazakhstan Region, Kazakh SSR, Soviet Union. She always dreamed of becoming a journalist but eventually decided to become an actress. While studying at Russian Academy of Theatre Arts – GITIS in 2008, Yeslyamova played in the film '' Tulpan'' by Sergey Dvortsevoy. The film about the life of shepherds in the Kazakh Steppe won the main prize of the Prix Un Certain Regard competition of the Cannes Film Festival and another 9 Grand Prix of international film festivals around the world. Petropavl
Petropavl ( kk, Петропавл, Petropavl ) or Petropavlovsk () is a city on the Ishim River in northern Kazakhstan close to the border with Russia. It is the capital of the North Kazakhstan Region. Population: 218,956. The city is also known colloquially in Kazakh as Kyzylzhar ( kk, Қызылжар, Qyzyljar, "Red Cliff"). ''Beanpole'' (russian: Дылда, Dylda) is a 2019 Russian drama film directed by Kantemir Balagov. It premiered in the Un Certain Regard section of the 2019 Cannes Film Festival. At Cannes, Balagov won the Un Certain Regard Best Director Award and the FIPRESCI Prize for Best Film in the Un Certain Regard section. It was selected as the Russian entry for the Best International Feature Film at the 92nd Academy Awards, making the December shortlist. The Nika Award (sometimes styled NIKA Award) is the main annual national film award in Russia, presented by the Russian Academy of Cinema Arts and Science, and seen as the national equivalent of the Oscars. The Japanese film ''Shoplifters'', directed by Hirokazu Kore-eda, won the Palme d'Or.
