Samuel Wilson
Samuel Wilson (September 13, 1766 – July 31, 1854) was an American meat packer who lived in Troy, New York, whose name is purportedly the source of the personification of the United States known as "Uncle Sam". Biography Wilson was born in the historic town of Arlington, Massachusetts (known as Menotomy at the time, township of West Cambridge), to parents Edward and Lucy Wilson. Wilson is a descendant of one of the oldest families of Boston; through direct heritance of his grandfather Robert Wilson, originally from Greenock, Scotland, he was Scottish with a Massachusetts background. As a boy, he moved with his family to Mason, New Hampshire. Continental Army While living in Mason at the young age of fourteen, Wilson joined the Continental Army on March 2, 1781. His duties while enlisted consisted of guarding and caring for cattle, and mending fences, as well as slaughtering and packaging meat; guarding meat was a priority during the war. Samuel Wilson (Portsmouth MP)
Sir Samuel Wilson (7 February 1832 – 11 June 1895) was an Irish-born Australian pastoralist and politician, and later a British Member of Parliament. Wilson was born in Ballycloughan, County Antrim, Ireland, in 1832. He was educated at Ballymena and at first intended taking up civil engineering. For three years he worked for a brother-in-law obert Chesney a linen manufacturer, but in 1852 decided to emigrate to Australia. He arrived in Melbourne in May 1852 and worked on the goldfields, but a few months later decided to join two brothers who had preceded him to Australia, and had a pastoral property in the Wimmera. He was made manager of one of their holdings, and selling a small property he had in Ireland, with his brothers bought Longerenong station for £40,000. Samuel Herbert Wilson
Brigadier-General Sir Samuel Herbert Wilson (31 October 1873 – 5 August 1950) was a British colonial administrator who served as Governor of Trinidad and Tobago between 1921 and 1924. He did much to popularise Association football, football, offering a Wilson Cup for football. Wilson was born in Dublin in 1873, the son of Dr. James Wilson. After attending the Royal Military Academy, Woolwich, he entered the Royal Engineers in 1893. He married Marie Ada Garbarino Gervers, daughter of Francis Theodore Gervers. His sister-in-law Theodora Chevalier Gervers married Sir Albert Hastings Markham. Samuel Franklin Wilson
Samuel Franklin Wilson (1845-1923) was an American Confederate veteran, politician and judge. Early life Samuel Franklin Wilson was born on April 18, 1845, in Sumner County, Tennessee. He was of English descent. During paternal great-great-uncle, Zachary Wilson, was a signatory of the Mecklenburg Declaration of Independence. His father was Samuel Wilson and his mother, Nancy Moore. He had seven siblings. During the American Civil War of 1861–1865, he served under Colonel William B. Bate and General Edmund Kirby Smith in the Confederate States Army. He lost an arm at the Battle of Chickamauga. After the war, Wilson graduated from the University of Georgia in 1868. He received a law degree from Cumberland University. Samuel Wilson (born 4 April 1953) is a Northern Irish politician, serving as Chief Whip of the Democratic Unionist Party (DUP) in the House of Commons since 2019. Wilson has served as the Member of Parliament (MP) for East Antrim since 2005. He served as a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) for Belfast East from 1998 to 2003 and for East Antrim from 2003 until 2015. He served as Lord Mayor of Belfast from 1986 to 1987 and again from 2000 to 2001, the first person from the DUP to hold the office. He has also served as Minister of Finance and Personnel and Minister of the Environment in the Northern Ireland Executive.
