Sam Thomson (rugby Union)
Sam Thomson (born 23 January 1994) is a Scottish rugby union player. He currently plays in Japan for Toshiba Brave Lupus in the Top League competition. His usual position is at lock. Early life and career Born in Edinburgh, Scotland, Thomson was raised in Glasgow where he attended Kelvinside Academy. He represented Glasgow District at U15, U16 and U17 age grades. He moved south to England where he played with Lydney RFC and attended the University of Worcester. He utilised the training link that the university had with Worcester Warriors, and also played for the Scottish Exiles U18s while based in England. Thomson then moved to New Zealand for six months where he played for Southbridge Rugby Club, an amateur club in the Canterbury Rugby Football Union, famous for being Dan Carter's first club. The 2016–17 season saw Glasgow Warriors compete in the Guinness Pro12, and the European Champions Cup. Season Overview Coaching changes The season began for Glasgow Warriors when it was announced that this 2016–17 season was to be the last in Head Coach's Gregor Townsend tenure. Townsend was announced to be taking over the Scotland Head Coach role from Vern Cotter in the summer of 2017. Two days later, the SRU quickly named Townsend's successor, New Zealand coach, Dave Rennie, the Head Coach of the Super Rugby side the Chiefs. The Scottish Rugby Academy, for sponsorship reasons the Fosroc Scottish Rugby Academy, is a national academy structure designed to give Scotland's young rugby stars a pathway into the professional game. The academy structure is based on 4 regional academies geographically based on the traditional districts of Glasgow District. Edinburgh District, North and Midlands and South. Rugby Pro D2
Rugby Pro D2, also known as Pro D2 is the second tier of rugby union club competition division in France. It is operated by Ligue Nationale de Rugby (LNR) which also runs the division directly above, the first division Top 14. Rugby Pro D2 was introduced in 2000. It is the world's best supported second tier rugby union league. Season structure There is relegation and promotion between both the Top 14 and Fédérale 1, the third-level competition. The top club at the end of the season is automatically promoted to the Top 14; through the 2016–17 season, the 2nd through 5th place teams play each other for the second promotion place. Daniel William Carter (born 5 March 1982) is a retired New Zealand rugby union player. Carter played for Crusaders (Super Rugby) in New Zealand and played for New Zealand's national team, the All Blacks. He is the highest point scorer in test match rugby, and is considered by many experts as the greatest ever first five-eighth (fly-half) in the history of the game.
