Sam Taub Award
The Sam Taub Award is a yearly award presented by the Boxing Writers Association of America for Excellence in Broadcasting Journalism. The award is named after Sam Taub, a journalist and radio broadcaster who is best known for his work covering boxing. It is similar to Major League Baseball's Ford C. Frick Award. Boxing Writers Association Of America
The Boxing Writers Association of America (BWAA) was originally formed in 1926 as the Boxing Writers Association of Greater New York. The association's purpose is to promote better working conditions for boxing writers, as well as hold its writers to the highest professional and ethical standards. The BWAA has a yearly awards banquet where it names fighter, fight, and trainer of the year, among other awards. Harold Lederman
Harold Lederman (January 26, 1940 – May 11, 2019) was an American boxing judge and analyst. He began his career as a boxing judge in 1967 and joined the cast of ''HBO World Championship Boxing'' in 1986, and was there until HBO dropped boxing in 2018. Lederman was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame in the class of 2016. Lederman died on May 11, 2019 at 79 years of age, from cancer. Education and career Lederman attended Columbia University and upon graduation earned a license from New York's State Athletic Commission to judge title fights on June 26, 1967. He judged (by his count) over a hundred title fights in every corner of the globe, all the while maintaining his pharmacy practice in New York. In 1986, HBO executive producer Ross Greenburg invited Lederman to join HBO's boxing show World Championship Boxing as an "expert commentator". Steve Albert (born Stephen Aufrichtig in Brooklyn, New York;April 26, 1952) is a former American sportscaster. He has served as a play-by-play announcer for the New Jersey Nets, New Orleans Hornets, Golden State Warriors, New York Mets, and Phoenix Suns as well as the Major Indoor Soccer League's New York Arrows. Albert ended his career as the television play-by-play announcer for the Phoenix Suns. He retired following the Suns' 2016-2017 season. Rich Marotta
Rich Marotta is an American sports personality in Reno, Nevada. After spending nearly 30 years in Los Angeles, Rich worked the final five years of his radio career on LA-based KFI AM 640, broadcasting from his Nevada home. In February 2011, he was inducted into the Southern California Sportscasters Hall of Fame. Then in June 2011, Rich was inducted into the California Boxing Hall of Fame. Jay Larkin (October 23, 1950 – August 9, 2010) was a television boxing and entertainment executive. Brian Kenny (born October 18, 1963 in New York City) is a studio host for MLB Network and a boxing play-by-play announcer for Fox Sports and DAZN. The television face of Sabermetrics and baseball analytics, he is the host of the weekday program ''MLB Now'', known as “the show for the thinking fan". Steven "Steve" Farhood (born 15 February 1957) is an American boxing historian and analyst. His life Farhood was born in Brooklyn, New York, to Lebanese parents. Farhood served as editor-in-chief of '' The Ring'' and ''KO Magazine''. He also served as First Vice President of the Boxing Writers Association of America. Teddy Atlas
Theodore A. "Teddy" Atlas Jr. (born July 29, 1956) is an American boxing trainer and fight commentator. Early life The son of a doctor, Atlas grew up in a wealthy area of Staten Island, New York City, New York. His mother, Mary Riley Atlas, was a former contestant in the Miss America pageant system, as well as a model. His father was of Hungarian Jewish ancestry and his mother of Irish descent. Atlas was raised in his mother's Catholic faith and spent summers in Spring Lake, New Jersey, with his family's friends. By his own admission, Atlas had a somewhat troubled, rebellious youth. He dropped out of school and was arrested several times. He participated in an armed robbery and served time on Rikers Island. Bob Sheridan
Bob Sheridan (born 1944 in Boston) is an American boxing and MMA commentator. He has broadcast over 10,000 fights on radio and television. Sheridan attended the University of Miami on a baseball scholarship and briefly played for the Class-A Miami Marlins after graduating in 1966. While working as a gym teacher in Miami, Sheridan paid for air time on WDER-FM on Sunday mornings. Before the end of the year, he started calling boxing matches on WGBS. He went on to announce several of Muhammad Ali's title fights, including the Rumble in the Jungle against George Foreman and the Thrilla in Manila which saw Ali take on Joe Frazier.
