Sam Hornish Jr
Samuel Jon Hornish Jr. (born July 2, 1979) is an American semi-retired professional auto racing driver. He last competed part-time in the NASCAR Xfinity Series, driving the No. 22 Ford Mustang for Team Penske in 2017. He began his top-tier racing career in the IndyCar Series, making his driving debut during the 2000 Indy Racing League season, 2000 season for PDM Racing. Hornish began driving for Panther Racing the following season, winning eleven races and the 2001 Indy Racing League season, 2001 and 2002 Indy Racing League season, 2002 series championships over the next three seasons. During the 2004 IndyCar Series season, 2004 season Hornish began driving for Team Penske, winning eight more races (including the 2006 Indianapolis 500) and the 2006 IndyCar Series season, 2006 series championship during his time with the team. Defiance is a city in and the county seat of Defiance County, Ohio, United States, about southwest of Toledo, Ohio, Toledo and northeast of Fort Wayne, Indiana, in Ohio's northwestern corner. The NASCAR Xfinity Series Championship Race is a NASCAR Xfinity Series event held at the Phoenix Raceway in Avondale, Arizona. Since 2020, it has been the season-finale for the series. History The race was first run in 1999 as the Outback Steakhouse 200. It became the Bashas' Supermarkets 200 in 2002. Following realignment of the two Xfinity Series races, the Arizona 200 took over the November slot. The 2016 race was held at night and served as the sixth race of the NASCAR Xfinity Series playoffs. The 2007 IRL IndyCar Series began with a night race on Saturday March 24 at Homestead-Miami Speedway. The season's premiere event, the 91st Indianapolis 500 was held May 27. The season finale was held at Chicagoland Speedway on September 9. 2000 Indy Racing League Season
The 2000 Indy Racing Northern Light Series was another season that saw a high level of parity, as only one driver, champion Buddy Lazier, won more than a single race. It also saw the beginning of the jump from Champ Car, CART as Al Unser Jr. moved to the series full-time and Chip Ganassi Racing came over to run the Indy 500, which it won with driver Juan Pablo Montoya. It was also the final season for the Riley & Scott chassis, which also saw its first series win in 2000.
