Salomè (1986 Film)
''Salomè'' is a 1986 Italian-French drama film directed by Claude d'Anna and starring Jo Champa. It is an adaptation of the 1891 Oscar Wilde play play of the same name, and was entered into the 1986 Cannes Film Festival. Plot While Jesus is preaching with his Apostles, the confessor John the Baptist is arrested by the king of Judea to the many defamatory sermons against the power of the monarchy. Herod, son of Herod the Great, imprisons John, and Princess Salome, daughter of Herod, without him being aware of it, secretly falls in love with John the Baptist. But it is a corrupt and lustful love, which comes from lying insults that John turns to the corrupt family of Herod. When Herod, in the birthday of his daughter, asks to Salome what gift she wants, Salome says she wants to see the severed head of John. Claude d'Anna (born 31 March 1945) is a French film director and screenwriter. He has directed 16 films since 1970. His film ''Salome'' was screened in the Un Certain Regard section the 1986 Cannes Film Festival. A year later his film ''Macbeth'' would be screened out of competition at the 1987 Festival. Tomas Milian
Tomas Milian (born Tomás Quintín Rodríguez-Varona Milián Salinas de la Fé y Álvarez de la Campa; 3 March 1933 – 22 March 2017) was a Cuban-born actor and singer with American and Italian citizenship, known for the emotional intensity and humor he brought to starring roles in European genre films. A student of Lee Strasberg, Milian studied method acting at the Actors Studio in New York City. Paul Konrad Müller (11 March 1923 – 2 September 2016) was a Swiss actor who appeared mostly in Italian films. His motion picture acting career in Europe spanned a period of 51 years. Acting career Theatre In 1941/1942 he studied acting at the "Conservatoire National Supérieur d`Art Dramatique" in Paris. Until 1944 he had different engagements at theatres in Paris, e. g. "Theatre Pigalle", "Salle Pleyel", "Theatre des Ambassadeurs". From 1944 to 1946 he was called up for military service in the French Army in Indochina shortly before the First Indochina War took place there. He caught malaria during that time and, in consequence of the disease, was left hard of hearing.
