Salat (river)
The Salat (; oc, Salat) is a river in southern France, a right tributary of the Garonne. It is long. It rises in nine points above the hamlet Salau in the municipality Couflens, on the slopes of Mont Rouch, central Pyrenees. The former Gascon province of Couserans is based on its valley. Saint-Girons, Ariège
Saint-Girons (; oc, Sent Gironç) is a commune in the Ariège department in southwestern France. History Antiquity Unlike its close neighbour Saint-Lizier, Saint-Girons isn't an ancient city; there was however a '' lucus'' on its present territory where some Roman finds were made during the construction of the train station in the beginning of the twentieth century. Modern-days district ''Le Luc'' is considered to owe its name to this ancient ''lucus''. Foundation The city is named after Saint Girons, a saint from fifth-century Landes who evangelized Novempopulania. In the ninth century some of his relics were supposedly buried in Saint Girons' Church, around which the city later developed. Climate Saint-Girons has a moderate but warm oceanic climate, that is quite prone to temporary vast extremes in temperature as a result of its inland position. Boussens, Haute-Garonne
Boussens is a commune in the Haute-Garonne department in southwestern France. Geography The commune is bordered by four other communes: Martres-Tolosane to the north, Le Fréchet to the northwest, Mancioux to the southwest, and finally by Roquefort-sur-Garonne across the river Garonne to the east. The river Garonne flows through the commune, forming a border with Roquefort-sur-Garonne. Garbet (river)
Samuel Garbet (d. 1751?) was an English topographer. Biography Garbet was born in Norton, in the parish of Wroxeter, Shropshire. He was educated at Donnington School and at Christ Church, Oxford, where he entered 12 June 1700, and graduated with a B.A. 23 May 1704, and a M.A. 5 July 1707. He was ordained as a deacon 22 Sept. 1706, and became curate of Great Ness. On 11 March 1712, he was elected second master of the free school at Wem, in Shropshire. In 1713, he became the curate of nearby Edstaston. In 1724 he was offered, but declined, the headmastership of the Wem school. In 1742, 'having y his own accountkept up the credit of the school for thirty years, and being in easy circumstances, he thought fit to retire,’ and devoted himself to the compilation of his 'History of Wem, and the following Villages and Townships,’ which was published posthumously in 1818 (Wem, 8vo). Salies-du-Salat
Salies-du-Salat (, literally ''Salies of the Salat''; oc, Salias de Salat) is a commune in the Haute-Garonne department in southwestern France. Population Economy Salies-du-Salat is known for its therapeutic hot springs. The spa buildings, recently renovated, form the attractive centrepiece to the town. There is a small casino located in the town. A weekly market takes place on Mondays in the centre of town. Pyrenees
The Pyrenees (; es, Pirineos ; french: Pyrénées ; ca, Pirineu ; eu, Pirinioak ; oc, Pirenèus ; an, Pirineus) is a mountain range straddling the border of France and Spain. It extends nearly from its union with the Cantabrian Mountains to Cap de Creus on the Mediterranean coast. It reaches a maximum altitude of at the peak of Aneto. For the most part, the main crest forms a divide between Spain and France, with the microstate of Andorra sandwiched in between.
