Salaried Staff Association
The Salaried Staff Association (SALSTAFF) was a trade union representing railway workers in South Africa. The union was founded in 1918, as the South African Railways and Harbours Salaried Staff Association, and long represented only white workers. In 1928, it was a leading founder of the Federal Consultative Council of South African Railways and Harbours Staff Associations, which from the 1950s was affiliated to the all-white South African Confederation of Labour. By 1980, it had 27,545 members. By the early 1990s, the union had transferred to the Federation of South African Labour Unions, its membership dropping to 16,000 in 1992. Federal Consultative Council Of South African Railways And Harbours Staff Associations
The Federal Consultative Council of South African Railways and Harbours Staff Associations (FCC) was a national trade union federation bringing together unions representing white railway workers in South Africa. The council was established in 1928 by the Artisan Staff Association and the South African Railways and Harbours Salaried Staff Association. In 1957, it affiliated to the South African Confederation of Labour (SACOL), a loose grouping. However, SACOL became gradually more centralised. In 1975, the FCC decided to disaffiliate, but all but one of its affiliates immediately signed up to SACOL. South African Confederation Of Labour
The South African Confederation of Labour (SACOL) was a national trade union federation of white workers in South Africa. History The federation was established in 1957, as a loose body bringing together the South African Federation of Trade Unions, the Co-ordinating Council of South African Trade Unions, the Federal Consultative Council of South African Railways and Harbours Staff Associations, and the Trade Union Council of South Africa (TUCSA). TUCSA withdrew in 1958, and the remaining federation was broadly supportive of apartheid. In 1968, the federation decided to permit individual unions to affiliate. These unions gradually came to operate on an equal footing to the remaining affiliated federations, and this led the Federal Consultative Council to disaffiliate in 1975, although all but one of its own affiliates decided to sign up individually to SACOL. The Federation of Unions of South Africa (FEDUSA) is the second largest national trade union center in South Africa. History The federation was founded on 1 April 1997, when the Federation of South African Labour Unions merged with the Federation of Organisations Representing Civil Employees. The UASA is a general union in South Africa. Background The union was founded on 1 April 1998, when the Administrative, Technical and Electronic Association of South Africa merged with the Underground Officials' Association. It affiliated to the Federation of Unions of South Africa (FEDUSA). It was initially named the United Association of South Africa, and while its membership was focused in mining, it accepted workers in all industries. This allowed it to absorb the Hairdressers' and Cosmetologists' Trade Unions in 2000, followed by the South African Diamond Workers' Union, and the Staff Association for the Motor and Related Industries, both in 2001. In 2002, the union absorbed SALSTAFF, and this took its membership to 65,000, making it easily FEDUSA's largest affiliate. In April 2003, the union absorbed the National Employees' Trade Union.
