Laval (; ) is a city in Quebec, Canada. It is in the southwest of the province, north of Montreal. It is the largest suburb of Montreal, the third-largest city in the province after Montreal and Quebec City, and the thirteenth largest city in Canada with a population of 422,993 in 2016. Laval is geographically separated from the mainland to the north by the Rivière des Mille Îles, and from the Island of Montreal to the south by the Rivière des Prairies. Laval-des-Rapides is a provincial electoral district in the Laval region of Quebec that elects members to the National Assembly of Quebec. It is located between Autoroute 15 and Autoroute 19 and between Rivière des Prairies and Autoroute 440. It was created for the 1981 election from parts of Fabre and Mille-Îles electoral districts. Chomedey is a provincial electoral district in Quebec, Canada that elects members to the National Assembly of Quebec. It is located in the western part of Laval. It takes in part of the Chomedey neighbourhood. It includes most of the territory bounded by the Rivière des Prairies to the south, Autoroute 15 to the east, Autoroute 440 to the north and Autoroute 13 to the west. It was created for the 1981 election from parts of Fabre and Laval electoral districts. In the change from the 2001 to the 2011 electoral map, it lost some territory to Fabre. In the change from the 2011 to 2017 electoral map, it will lose some more territory to Fabre, in the area around Parc Le Boutillier. François Gaudreau
François Gaudreau (born February 17, 1957 in Montreal, Quebec) is a Canadian politician and was the Action démocratique du Québec Member of the National Assembly for the electoral district of Vimont from 2002 to 2003. Gaudreau was first elected to the National Assembly in a by-election, held on June 17, 2002, with 50% of the vote. Liberal candidate Vincent Auclair finished second with 33% of the vote. In the 2003 election, Gaudreau finished third with 19% of the vote. Auclair won, with 46% of the vote. In the 2007 election, Gaudreau attempted to win the seat back from Auclair. The Parti 51 is a political party in the Canadian province of Quebec that was founded in the late 1980s under the leadership of Serge Talon. The party has proposed the separation of Quebec from Canada in order to seek admission to the United States as the 51st state of the American union. The party had no success in winning any seat in 1989 election to the National Assembly of Quebec, and in the spring of 1990, asked the Direction of Elections of Quebec to dissolve the party because it no longer had enough members to form an executive committee.
