Saint-Luc-de-Bellechasse, Quebec
Saint-Luc-de-Bellechasse is a municipality in the Municipalité régionale de comté des Etchemins in Quebec, Canada. It is part of the Chaudière-Appalaches region and the population is 485 as of 2009. Originally named Saint-Abdon, it was changed to Saint-Luc-de-Dijon, due to confusion in spelling and difficulties of pronunciation. It was later renamed to Saint-Luc and since 1997, Saint-Luc-de-Bellechasse. Saint-Luc honours Luc Gilbert of Saint-Augustin-de-Portneuf, who would have given an important sum for the construction of the rector. The source of the Etchemin River The Etchemin River is a river in the Chaudière-Appalaches region of eastern Quebec. It gave its name to Les Etchemins Regional County Municipality. Sainte-Justine is a municipality in the Les Etchemins Regional County Municipality in Quebec, Canada. It is part of the Chaudière-Appalaches region and the population is 1,835 as of 2009. It is named after Marie-Justine Têtu, wife to Hector-Louis Langevin, member of Parliament for Dorchester. It is home to a regional secondary school, Polyvalente des Appalaches. Lac-Etchemin, Quebec
Lac-Etchemin is a municipality in and the seat of the Municipalité régionale de comté des Etchemins in Quebec, Canada. It is part of the Chaudière-Appalaches region and the population is 4,028 as of 2021. It takes its name from Etchemin Lake, at the centre of the municipality. "Etchemin" means "men, human beings" in Abenaki language. Lac-Etchemin is home to winter resort Mont Orignal and the birthplace of controversial religious Community of the Lady of All Nations. History The area near Etchemin Lake was first described in 1828 as lovely by the surveyor Emmanuel. A few years later, in 1835, the region sees its first settler, Commissary General Sir Randolph Isham Routh KCB (1782–1858), who was given a land grant of for his services to the Crown. The new municipality of Lac-Etchemin was created in 2001 following the amalgamation of the city of Lac-Etchemin and the parish of Sainte-Germaine-du-Lac-Etchemin. Etchemin River
The Etchemin River is a river in the Chaudière-Appalaches region of eastern Quebec. It gave its name to Les Etchemins Regional County Municipality. The river itself was named for the Abenaki native people of the area who the French called "les Etchemins." The source of the river is not Etchemin Lake but a little east of the lake, in Saint-Luc-de-Bellechasse. The Etchemin River, which had become been the victim of pollution for decades, became the topic of conversation in 1993, when a few residents of Saint-Léon-de-Standon began work on a project to revive the Atlantic salmon in the river. The project was scoffed at in the beginning since damming and logging along the Etchemin's shore and agricultural runoff and dumping had polluted the river so much that Atlantic salmon had been last seen there two centuries earlier. Saint-Augustin-de-Desmaures
Saint-Augustin-de-Desmaures is a city in central Quebec, Canada, on the Saint Lawrence River, adjacent to Quebec City. The town was founded in 1691 by three families (Desroches, Racette, Couture). It was merged with Quebec City on January 1, 2002 as part of the 2000–2006 municipal reorganization in Quebec and became part of the Laurentien borough of that city. However, after a 2004 referendum it was re-established as a separate city on January 1, 2006. The local post office was previously named Saint-Augustin-de-Portneuf from 1852, then Saint-Augustin-de-Québec from 1918 until this was renamed to the community's current name in 1986.
