Isabel Marques Swan (born November 18, 1983) is a Brazilian sailor. She won a bronze medal in Sailing at the 2008 Summer Olympics – Women's 470 class, 470 class at the 2008 Summer Olympics. Born in Rio de Janeiro and raised in Niterói, she started sailing at the age of 8, influenced by her father, with whom she would compete in the 1998 Tornado World Championship, and her aunt and godmother Cláudia Swan, who was the first Brazilian female sailor in the Olympics, in 1992 Summer Olympics, 1992. In 2004, Fernanda Oliveira (sailor), Fernanda Oliveira, who had just competed in the 2004 Summer Olympics, invited Swan to sail with her in the 470 class, a partnership that led to Brazil's first female medal in sailing. Sailing at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro was held from 8–18 August at Marina da Gloria in Guanabara Bay. The sailing classes had two changes from the 2012 Summer Olympics events. There were 10 events. Overview Equipment and event changes * The RS:X, Laser, Laser Radial, Finn, 470, and 49er all return for 2016. * The keelboat discipline has been dropped, meaning that both women's (Elliott 6m) and men's ( the Star) are not part of the program. Nikola Girke
Nikola Girke (born December 30, 1977, in Grande Prairie, Alberta) is a Canadian sailor and a five-time Olympian. She is amongst only a few elite athletes who have made the transition from one sport to another and has achieved a top 10 in the world across three different sport disciplines. She finished 13th at the 2004 Summer Olympics in the 470, then switched to RSX windsurfing and placed 17th at the 2008 Summer Olympics. At the 2012 Summer Olympics she finished 10th in the RS:X.
