Isabel Swan
Isabel Marques Swan (born November 18, 1983) is a Brazilian sailor. She won a bronze medal in Sailing at the 2008 Summer Olympics – Women's 470 class, 470 class at the 2008 Summer Olympics. Born in Rio de Janeiro and raised in Niterói, she started sailing at the age of 8, influenced by her father, with whom she would compete in the 1998 Tornado World Championship, and her aunt and godmother Cláudia Swan, who was the first Brazilian female sailor in the Olympics, in 1992 Summer Olympics, 1992. In 2004, Fernanda Oliveira (sailor), Fernanda Oliveira, who had just competed in the 2004 Summer Olympics, invited Swan to sail with her in the 470 class, a partnership that led to Brazil's first female medal in sailing. The 121st International Olympic Committee (IOC) Session was held on October 1–9, 2009 in Copenhagen, Denmark, during which Rio de Janeiro was selected as the host city of the 2016 Summer Olympics. The Rio de Janeiro bid for the 2016 Summer Olympics and Paralympics was a successful bid to host the Games of the XXXI Olympiad and the XV Paralympic Games, respectively. It was submitted on September 7, 2007, and recognized as an Applicant city by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) one week after. On June 4, 2008, the IOC Executive Board shortlisted Rio de Janeiro with three of the six other Applicant cities—Chicago, Madrid and Tokyo; over Baku, Doha and Prague—becoming a Candidate city during the 2008 SportAccord Convention in Athens, Greece. Samuel Albrecht
Samuel Albrecht (born 2 September 1981) is a Brazilian sailor who specializes in both two-person dinghy (470) and mixed multihull (Nacra 17) classes. He has been selected to compete for the Brazilian sailing team at the 2008 Summer Olympics, finishing seventeenth along with his partner Fabio Pillar in the 470 regatta. After missing out on the Olympic selection in 2012, Albrecht decided to turn his attention and eventually teamed up with Olympic bronze medalist Isabel Swan on the newly instated Nacra 17 catamaran for a chance to compete at his possible second Games in Rio de Janeiro. As of April 2015, Albrecht is ranked forty-fourth in the world for the mixed multihull class by the International Sailing Federation. Nacra 17
The Nacra 17 is a performance catamaran used for sailing. It was designed in 2011, went into production in 2012 and has been the focus of multihull sailing at the Olympic Games since its conception. The Nacra has been converted to a sailing hydrofoil for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
