Saidi Shariff
Saidi bin Shariff (1940 – 14 January 2020) was a Singaporean politician belonging to People's Action Party. He was a member of the Parliament of Singapore. Biography Saidi was a founding member of Yayasan Mendaki which is a self-help group. He received secondary education in Raffles Institution from 1955 to 1958. In the sixties he worked at the National Community Leadership Training Institute. He was elected as a member of the Parliament of Singapore from Kaki Bukit Single Member Constituency, Kaki Bukit in 1980. After his parliamentary career, Saidi started to take classes for young leaders. Later, he received a postgraduate degree from the University of Hull at the age of 56. He retired as an assistant director from Yayasan Mendaki in 2002. Saidi died on 14 January 2020 at the age of 79. Kaki Bukit Single Member Constituency
Kaki Bukit Constituency was a single member constituency (SMC) in Bedok, Singapore; carved from Kampong Chai Chee division in prior to 1980 Singaporean general election, 1980 elections and was absorbed into the Eunos GRC on 1988 Singaporean general election, 1988 elections. In 1984, Tan Chee Kien was offered the non-constituency Member of Parliament (NCMP) seat after Madai Puthan Damodaran Nair, a Workers' Party of Singapore, Workers' Party candidate in Jalan Kayu Constituency had declined the offered NCMP seat. People's Action Party
The People's Action Party (abbreviation: PAP) is a major conservative centre-right political party in Singapore and is one of the three contemporary political parties represented in Parliament, alongside the opposition Workers' Party (WP) and Progress Singapore Party (PSP). Initially founded as a traditional centre-left party in 1954, the leftist faction was soon expelled from the party in 1961 by Lee Kuan Yew in the midst of Singapore's merger with Malaysia, desiring to move the party's ideology towards the centre after its first electoral victory in 1959. Beginning in the 1960s, the party henceforth began to move towards the centre-right. Raffles Institution (RI) is an independent educational institution in Singapore. Founded in 1823, it is the oldest school in the country. It provides secondary education for boys only from Year 1 to Year 4, and pre-university education for both boys and girls in Year 5 and Year 6.
