1982 Hong Kong Local Elections
The 1982 Hong Kong local elections, commonly known as 1982 Hong Kong District Board elections, were the first ever local elections under the new creation of 18 district boards. Under the governorship of Murray MacLehose, the Hong Kong Government published a Green Paper proposal entitled ''A Pattern of District Administration in Hong Kong'' in June 1980. It involved the setting up of 18 district boards to be partially directly elected on the universal franchise and partially appointed. Among a total of 490 members in the 18 District Boards, 132 (around one-third) were directly elected by the general public. A further 134 members were appointed, and the rest were ex officio. The election for the district boards in New Territories was held on 4 March 1982 while the district boards in the urban areas was held on 23 September in the same year. Sai Kung District Council
The Sai Kung District Council () is the district council for the Sai Kung District in Hong Kong. It is one of 18 such councils. The Sai Kung District Council currently consists of 31 members, of which the district is divided into 29 constituencies, electing a total of 29 with two ex-officio members who are the Hang Hau and Sai Kung rural committee chairmen. The latest election was held on 24 November 2019. History The Sai Kung District Council was established on 1 April 1981 under the name of the Sai Kung District Board as the result of the colonial Governor Murray MacLehose's District Administration Scheme reform. Sai Kung District is one of the 18 districts of Hong Kong, a special administrative region of China. The district comprises the southern half of the Sai Kung Peninsula, the Clear Water Bay Peninsula in the New Territories and a strip of land to the east of Kowloon. Areas in the district include Sai Kung Town, Hong Kong UNESCO Global Geopark, Tseung Kwan O and over 70 islands of different sizes. The administrative centre had been located in Sai Kung Town until the Sai Kung District Office was relocated to Tseung Kwan O recently. Sai Kung Peninsula
The Sai Kung Peninsula () is a peninsula in the easternmost part of the New Territories in Hong Kong. Its name comes from Sai Kung Town in the central southern area of the peninsula. The southern part of the peninsula is administrated by Sai Kung District, the north by Tai Po District and the northwest by Sha Tin District. Description The vast land and sea area of the peninsula remains untouched by urbanisation, and it is mostly covered by country parks. The marine ecosystem in Hoi Ha Wan is protected by law. Sai Kung is also a popular place for hiking. The starting point for the MacLehose Trail is at Pak Tam Chung in Sai Kung. The Democratic Alliance for the Betterment and Progress of Hong Kong (DAB) is a Pro-Beijing camp (Hong Kong), pro-Beijing Conservatism, conservative political party in Hong Kong. 2019 Hong Kong Local Elections
The 2019 Hong Kong District Council elections were held on 24 November 2019 for all 18 District Councils of Hong Kong. 452 seats from all directly elected constituencies, out of the 479 seats in total, were contested. Nearly three million people voted, equivalent to 71 per cent of registered voters, an unprecedented turnout in the electoral history of Hong Kong. Sai Kung Commons () is a local political group based in Sai Kung founded in 2016. In a historic pro-democracy landslide in 2019 District Council election, the group won three seats in the Sai Kung District Council. History Sai Kung Commons was founded in 2019 by a group of activists who were concerned about development in Sai Kung and rural living and aimed at breaking the monopoly of District Councillors who were biased in favour of the property developers with large scale residential projects destroying the rural nature.
