Sagene is a borough of the city of Oslo, Norway. The area became part of the city of Oslo (then Christiania) in 1859. The name Sagene itself is the plural of the Norwegian word for "saw", reflecting all the old industrial mechanical saws powered by the river Akerselva in this area in the 19th and early 20th centuries. Sagene Church
Sagene Church is located in Oslo, Norway. The church is one of the most rugged and prominent in Oslo. The church was built in gothic revival style and it was consecrated in 1891. It was designed by architect Christian Fürst in neo-Gothic style. There are 600 seats. Fountain and landscaping around the church were conducted from 1891 to 1895, and upgraded from 1923. The altarpiece was executed by the painter Christen Brun (1828-1905) and shows the removal of Jesus from the cross. At the choir stairs a large baptismal fresco with a dove, the symbol of the Holy Ghost, created by Carsten Lien in 1919, restored in 1959. The pulpit is octagonal, made of pine and is from 1890. The church has a number of stained-glass windows. a large rose window above the main entrance, four windows in the middle of the choir with Old and New Testament motifs. Sagene Depot
Sagene Depot ( no, Sagene vognhall) is a disused, but not abandoned tram depot in Stockfleths gate at Sagene in Oslo, Norway. Two hall units, several apartments and offices, a forge and a workshop constitute the depot. The two hall units are preserved, and are now used as a cultural meeting place. Oskar Braaten
Oskar Braaten (25 November 1881 – 17 July 1939) was a Norwegian novelist and playwright. Biography Oskar Alexander Braaten was born in Sagene, a borough of the city of Oslo. Sagene was one of Norway's oldest industrial areas dating to the mid-19th century. Oskar Braaten attended school in Sagene until he was 15 years old. In 1899, he was hired by antiquarian bookstore Bertrand Jensen, where he remained until 1910. Though born and raised in Oslo, Braaten joined the mostly rural landsmål-movement. Braaten is best known for his popular plays and novels depicting the life of factory workers alongside Akerselva in Oslo. He published seven novels between 1917 and 1925. Braaten convey a new image of the Oslo not seen before in literature. Braaten was able to provide vivid and richly nuanced images of working-class life on the east side of Oslo during a historical period of industrialization. The 15 boroughs of Oslo were created on 1 January 2004. They each have an elected local council with limited responsibilities. In addition is Marka (1610 residents), that is administered by several boroughs; and Sentrum (1471 residents, 1.8 km2) that is partially administered by St. Hanshaugen, and in part directly by the city council. Torshov
Torshov is a neighborhood north of Grünerløkka and Lilleborg in the borough Sagene in Oslo, Norway. Oslo Tramway (''Trikken i Oslo'') provides connections with lines running between Majorstuen and Kjelsås. Vogts gate serves as the main street of the neighborhood. Along Vogts gate are several coffee shops, restaurants and cafes. The Torshov public school was built in 1878. Torshov was separated from Sagene as a separate congregation in 1930. The local sports club is Skeid Fotball. Torshov Church Torshov church (''Torshov kirke'') was consecrated in 1958. The church is located in Torshov kirkepark, between Åsengata and Nordkappgata. The building was built of stone and wood with copper plates, and has 400 seats. Oslo
Oslo ( , , or ; sma, Oslove) is the capital and most populous city of Norway. It constitutes both a county and a municipality. The municipality of Oslo had a population of in 2022, while the city's greater urban area had a population of in 2019, and the metropolitan area had an estimated population of in 2021. During the Viking Age the area was part of Viken. Skeid Fotball
Skeid is a Norwegian football club from Oslo that currently plays in 1. divisjon ( OBOS-ligaen), the second tier of the Norwegian football league system. Its current home field is Nordre Åsen, after the club stopped playing at Bislett after the 2012 season. In past decades it has gained a reputation as a talent factory for the larger clubs in Norwegian football, and it has produced several players for the national team such as Daniel Braaten, Daniel Fredheim Holm, Omar Elabdellaoui and Mohammed Abdellaoue. Bjølsen
Bjølsen is a neighbourhood in the Sagene borough in central-northern Oslo, Norway. Originally a farm in the former Aker municipality, it was incorporated into Christiania (now Oslo) in 1878. It has been sawmill and mill operation as far back as the 17th century. Later came the textile industry to Bjølsen, and also a granite quarry. After most of Bjølsen was incorporated in Christiania (Oslo) in 1878 and much of the farm land was purchased by the municipality it became regulated park, Bjølsen park, which is still a green lung in the area. Iladalen Park (Oslo)
Iladalen Park is a park in the borough of Iladalen in the district of Sagene in Oslo, Norway. The 27.9 acre park was established in 1948. The park is the centerpiece of the overall planned residential facility in Iladalen, and is the city's best preserved park in the functionalist style, with simplicity and objectivity in design. Åsen, Oslo
Åsen is a neighborhood divided between the boroughs of Sagene and Nordre Aker in Oslo, Norway. The neighbourhood is named after the old farm Åsen ( Norse ''Ósin'', from originally ''*Ásvin''). The first element is ''áss'' m 'mountain ridge' (here referring to Grefsenåsen), the last element is ''vin'' f 'meadow'. The name is often misunderstood as ''åsen'', the finite form of ''ås'' (the modern Norwegian form of ''áss''), and is then wrongly pronounced with '' accent 1'' - but the correct pronunciation is with ''accent 2''. Åsen farm was owned by the Catholic Church until the Reformation, when it came on private hands. It was split in three in 1810. Akerselva
Akerselva or Akerselven ( en, Aker River) is a river which flows through Oslo. It starts at Maridalsvannet in Oslomarka, and traverses the boroughs of Nordre Aker, Sagene, Grünerløkka, central Oslo and Grønland, whereby it finally ends at Paulsenkaien and Oset in Bjørvika. The river is considered to be a part of the Nordmarkvassdraget, and has the Norwegian watercourse number 006.Z. The entire river is about long, and has a difference in elevation between source and mouth of approximately .
