Sadatsugu Matsuda
(まつだ さだつぐ) (2 November 1906 – 20 January 2003, Tokyo, Japan) was a Japanese film director. He directed films from 1925 to 1969. His name is also incorrectly spelled as Sadaji Matsuda. A film director controls a film's artistic and dramatic aspects and visualizes the screenplay (or script) while guiding the film crew and actors in the fulfilment of that vision. The director has a key role in choosing the cast members, production design and all the creative aspects of filmmaking. Shōzō Makino (director)
Shōzō Makino (牧野省三, ''Makino Shōzō'', September 22, 1878, Kyoto – July 25, 1929) was a Japanese film director, film producer and businessman who is regarded as a pioneering director of Japanese film. In addition, all four of his sons, including Masahiro Makino and Sadatsugu Matsuda, went into the film business as either directors or producers, and his grandchildren include the actors Masahiko Tsugawa and Hiroyuki Nagato. Actress Yoko Minamida is a granddaughter-in-law. Career Makino was born in Kyoto on September 22, 1878. His mother ran a theater, and his association with movies began when the motion picture producer Einosuke Yokota of Yokota Shōkai asked for his help in filming period films. Masahiro Makino
was a Japanese film director. He directed more than 260 films, primarily in the chanbara and yakuza genres. His real name was , but he took the stage name Masahiro, the kanji for which he changed multiple times (including , , and ). Career Masahiro Makino was born in Kyoto, the eldest son of the film director and producer Shōzō Makino, who is often called the father of Japanese cinema. As a youth he acted in over 100 films before debuting as a film director in 1926 at age 18. His critically acclaimed nihilistic jidaigeki such as ''Roningai'' (1928) made him one of the top Japanese film directors, but his way of shooting films quickly also earned him detractors. For instance, the total time it took to shoot the 1936 film ''Edo no Ka Oshō'' was only 28 hours. Kojiki Taishō
is jidaigeki novel written by Jirō Osaragi in 1945. The novel deals with the warlord Gotō Matabei's life during the Warring States period. The novel was adapted into film in 1952 and 1964. Plot Gotō Matabei is the most able and fierce samurai of the Kuroda clan. However, he gradually dislikes the ruthless personality of Kuroda Nagamasa and leaves the clan. Ninkyō Shimizu-minato
is a 1957 color Japanese film, directed by Sadatsugu Matsuda (松田定次), and the first of an all-star cast trilogy, loosely based on the legend of Shimizu Jirocho (1820–1893), Japan's most famous gangster and folk hero, whose life and exploits were featured in sixteen films between 1911 and 1940. Plot As the gangster boss of the Tokaido Road, Jirocho (Cheizo Kataoka) sends his men to track down a fugitive, who has killed Jirocho's associate. They eventually find the fugitive hiding out at the property of another gangster boss, Kansuke (Eijiro Tono), who unknowingly shelters a wanted man.
