It was awarded Best Film at the Blue Dragon Film Awards ceremony. Actor Kim Yong-yeon was given a special award for his performance in the film at the Grand Bell Awards ceremony. Synopsis This family melodrama tells the story of Lee Yun-bok, a fourth-grader in a poor family. Unable to tolerate his father's gambling and cruelty, his mother leaves home. Yun-bok helps support the family by shining shoes, and keeps a journal. When his journal is made public in school, Yun-bok's father repents of his bad behavior, and his mother returns home. Kim made his debut in 1958 with ''A Henpecked Husband'' and directed more than 100 movies through 1999 with ''Scent of Love'' (2000). Shin Sang-ok ( ko, 신상옥; born Shin Tae-seo; October 11, 1926 – April 11, 2006) was a South Korean filmmaker with more than 100 producer and 70 director credits to his name. His best-known films were made in the 1950s and 60s, many of them collaborations with his wife Choi Eun-hee, when he was known as "The Prince of South Korean Cinema". He received the Order of Cultural Merit (South Korea), Gold Crown Cultural Medal, the country's top honor for an artist. In 1978, Shin and Choi were Abduction of Shin Sang-ok and Choi Eun-hee, kidnapped by North Korean leader, Kim Jong-il, for the purpose of producing critically acclaimed films. The two remained in captivity for 8 years until 1986, when they escaped and sought asylum in the United States. Shin Young-kyun (born November 6, 1928) is a South Korean actor, film producer, and politician. Biography Shin Young-kyun was born in Pyongsan, Hwanghae Province (now part of North Korea) in 1928. Ju Jeung-ryu (February 11, 1926 – 1980) was South Korean actress whose fame peaked in the 1950s and 1960s. She starred in about 400 films.
