The Verkehrsverbund Rhein-Ruhr (), abbreviated VRR, is a public transport association (Verkehrsverbund) in the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia. It covers most of the Ruhr area, as well as neighbouring parts of the Lower Rhine region, including Düsseldorf and thus large parts of the Rhine-Ruhr conurbation. In rail transport, track gauge (in American English, alternatively track gage) is the distance between the two rails of a railway track. Rheinbahn is a public transport operator operating in Düsseldorf, Meerbusch and Kreis Mettmann. Its network consists of the Düsseldorf Stadtbahn, a network of 11 Stadtbahn (light rail) lines which are integrated in the Rhine-Ruhr Stadtbahn network, as well as Düsseldorf's tram system and 92 bus lines. Krefeld ( , ; li, Krieëvel ), also spelled Crefeld until 1925 (though the spelling was still being used in British papers throughout the Second World War), is a city in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. Viersen () is a Kreis (district) in the west of North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. Neighboring districts are Cleves, Wesel, district-free Krefeld, Neuss, district-free Mönchengladbach, Heinsberg and the Dutch province of Limburg. History In 1816, the new Prussian government created the district of ''Kempen''. Trams In Krefeld
The Krefeld tramway network (german: Straßenbahnnetz Krefeld) is a network of tramways forming part of the public transport system in Krefeld, a city in the federal state of North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. Opened in 1883, the network has been operated since 2002 by SWK MOBIL, and is integrated in the Verkehrsverbund Rhein-Ruhr (VRR). Lines , the Krefeld tramway network had four lines, operating in Krefeld and St.Tönis. All of these lines, along with lines ''U70'' and ''U76'' of the Düsseldorf-Krefeld Stadtbahn, run through the centre of Krefeld, on a combined double track route via Ostwall, using four rails per track (two of them metre gauge, and the other two standard gauge).
