SPL Helsingin Piiri
The SPL Helsingin piiri ''(Helsinki Football Association)'' is one of the 12 district organisations of the Football Association of Finland. It administers lower tier football in Helsinki. Background Suomen Palloliitto Helsingin piiri, commonly referred to as SPL Helsingin piiri or SPL Helsinki, is the governing body for football in Helsinki. Based in Helsinki, the Association's General Secretary is Kimmo J. Lipponen. The association was founded on 9 January 1924 and is the oldest District Football Association in Finland. SPL Vaasa was established 6 days later and SPL Turku on 5 May 1924. Since 1970 the organisation has only covered the city of Helsinki when the 13 surrounding municipalities formed the new SPL Keski-Uusimaa (which was later to become part of SPL Uusimaa). Atlantis FC
Atlantis FC is a Finnish football club, based in Helsinki. It currently plays in the third tier of Finnish football (''Kakkonen''). History The club was founded in late 1995 when Johanneksen Dynamo (founded 1980) and FC Norssi (founded 1985) merged. The name "Atlantis FC" was created by Gösta Sundqvist, singer of Leevi and the Leavings. The team began to play in the third tier of Finnish football (the ''Kakkonen'') in 1996 and in 1997 they were promoted to the Ykkönen. In 1999 the club reached the playoffs for promotion to the first tier (Veikkausliiga, or betting league in English, named for its sponsor) but lost to Vaasan Palloseura. The following year they achieved promotion to the Veikkausliiga. In 2001 Atlantis finished seventh in the league and won the Finnish Cup. Kontula, Helsinki
Kontula ( sv, Gårdsbacka) is a ''quarter'' of Helsinki, Finland, part of the Mellunkylä neighbourhood. Kontula was built mostly in the 1960s and 1970s when more housing was required in Helsinki. Many people from the city centre moved to Kontula; due to its little higher than average concentration of government tenant housing complexes, immigrant and refugee population it is regarded as an average eastern Helsinki suburb. Kontula has generally been considered one of the most notorious suburbs in East Helsinki largely due to prevailing incidents of violence and drug dealing, the latter of which local youths actively run a drug trade near the shopping area and the metro station. Kolmonen
Kolmonen or III divisioona is the fourth level in the league system of Finnish football and comprises 104 Finnish football teams. The III divisioona was introduced in 1973 and in the mid-1990s became known as the Kolmonen (''Number Three'' in English and ''Trean'' in Swedish). The competition There are 104 clubs in the Kolmonen, divided in 9 groups of 10 to 12 teams each representing a geographical area. During the course of a season (starting in April and ending in October) each club plays the others twice, once at their home ground and once at that of their opponents. The top team in each Kolmonen group is promoted to Kakkonen and the two lowest placed teams are normally relegated to the Nelonen.
