''SNK 40th Anniversary Collection'' is a video game compilation developed by Digital Eclipse consisting of arcade and console games published by SNK between 1979 and 1990. The collection was released for the Nintendo Switch in 2018, later in 2019 for PlayStation 4 on 19 March, Xbox One on 3 May, and Steam on 7 July. Games included The collection includes 25 games (Xbox One version has an exclusive game that replaces another game from the other versions). Athena (video Game)
is a platform arcade game, produced and published in 1986 by SNK. Conversions were later released for the NES console and ZX Spectrum and Commodore 64 home computers. The game's protagonist, Princess Athena, has gone on to appear in later fighting games by SNK as a secret character or assistant to her descendant Athena Asamiya, a frequent main character in these games. Plot Athena was the young, headstrong princess of the heavenly Kingdom of Victory. She was bored of the monotonous daily life in the palace and desired exciting adventures. One day, she opened the "Door Which Shouldn't Be Opened" in the basement of Castle Victory, said to lead to a savage and deadly place. As she dared cross the doorway, it caused her to fall from the skies and to another realm called Fantasy World, which was dominated by the evil Emperor Dante. ''Ikari Warriors'', known as in Japan, is a vertically-scrolling, run-and-gun shooter arcade video game released by SNK in 1986. It was published in North America by Tradewest. The game was released at the time when there were many ''Commando'' clones on the market. What distinguished ''Ikari Warriors'' were rotary joysticks and a two-player cooperative mode. The rotary joystick controls were in turn based on SNK's earlier ''TNK III'' (1985). ''Ikari'' was originally intended it to be an official licensed adaptation of the film '' Rambo: First Blood Part II'' (1985), but SNK were initially unable to acquire the rights to the film. The game was a major commercial success in arcades. It was Japan's second highest-grossing table 1986, and London's third highest-grossing arcade game that year. Street Smart (video Game)
is a 1989 beat 'em up arcade game developed and published by SNK. The game's objective is to win money, girls, and glory on the streets all over the West. Taking place in a once-in-a-lifetime "Champion Tag Match in USA" tournament where players take the roles of two young hand-to-hand combat experts who have to brawl with the toughest street fighters of the entire nation. Gameplay The gameplay is a beat 'em up where the player can move in all eight directions in an arena fight and the player can kick, punch or do special moves.
