SK Austria Kärnten was an Austrian association football club, from Klagenfurt, Carinthia. History The club was formed on 1 June 2007 and took over the license of ASKÖ Pasching to play in the Austrian Football Bundesliga. SK Austria took over the former name of rivalling FC Kärnten (as well as several notable players and sponsors' funds). In June 2010, the club announced it was filing for bankruptcy and the city founded a new club, SK Austria Klagenfurt. Stadium Austria Kärnten played its home games at Hypo-Arena in the south-west end of Klagenfurt. Frank "Frenkie" Schinkels (born 9 January 1963 in Rotterdam, Netherlands) is a former professional football midfielder and Austrian international team player and current coach. Club career Schinkels started his career in the Feyenoord youth squad. He never represented the club at senior level since Feyenoord manager Jan Mak moved to Sweden's Halmstads BK and took Schinkels with him, making him the first foreign player ever to play for the club. He spent 2 seasons in Sweden before moving back home to the Netherlands to play for AZ Alkmaar and then Excelsior Rotterdam. Walter "Schoko" Schachner (born 1 February 1957) is a football manager and former player, who played as a forward. He made 64 appearances scoring 23 goals for the Austria national team. As he always brought chocolate to the games when he was a boy, he got the nickname ''schoko''. He was one of the most successful Austrian players in Italian football, as he played for four clubs over seven years. Club career Schachner was born in Leoben, Austria. SK Austria Klagenfurt is an Austrian football club, based in the Carinthian capital Klagenfurt, currently playing in the Austrian Bundesliga. History The emergence of the club marked the end of all efforts to establish an all-Carinthian team to play in the Austrian Football Bundesliga, pushed by the state's government under Jörg Haider.
