SHODAN (Sentient Hyper-Optimized Data Access Network) is a fictional artificial intelligence and the main antagonist of the cyberpunk-horror themed video games ''System Shock'' and ''System Shock 2''. Character design SHODAN is an artificial intelligence whose moral restraints were removed from her programming by a hacker in order for Edward Diego, station chief of Citadel Station, on which SHODAN was installed, to delete compromising files regarding illegal experiments and his corruption. She is a megalomaniac with a god complex and sees humans as little better than insects, something which she constantly reminds the player of. Her words are accompanied by stuttering, fluctuating voice pitch, shifts of timbre, and the presence of three voices speaking the same words with the constituent voices alternately lagging behind and leading ahead in different patterns, as well as computer glitches resembling a sound card malfunction. ''System Shock'' is a 1994 first-person action-adventure video game developed by LookingGlass Technologies and published by Origin Systems. ''System Shock 2'' is a 1999 action role-playing survival horror video game designed by Ken Levine and co-developed by Irrational Games and Looking Glass Studios. Originally intended to be a standalone title, its story was changed during production into a sequel to the 1994 game '' System Shock''. Terri Brosius
Terri Brosius (née Barous) is an American musician, voice actress, and game designer, best known in gaming circles as the voice of SHODAN in the ''System Shock'' series. Biography Terri was a member of the Boston band Tribe as a keyboardist and occasional vocalist. On Tribe's albums ''Here at the Home'' and '' Abort'', she sang the song "Rescue Me". On Tribe's album '' Sleeper'', she sang the song "Mr. Lieber". Following the band's separation in 1994, she and Tribe guitarist Eric Brosius married. Terri is currently a keyboardist and backup vocalist for the Boston-based band The Vivs. Brosius and her husband, along with Tribe bass player Greg LoPiccolo, joined video game developer Looking Glass Studios, where they worked on various game projects until its closure in 2000. She and her husband continue to work on various projects with Harmonix. Hibernation (computing)
Hibernation (also known as suspend to disk, or Safe Sleep on Macintosh computers) in computing is powering down a computer while retaining its state. When hibernation begins, the computer saves the contents of its random access memory (RAM) to a hard disk or other non-volatile storage. When the computer is turned on the RAM is restored and the computer is exactly as it was before entering hibernation. Hibernation was first implemented in 1992 and patented by Compaq Computer Corporation in Houston, Texas. As of 2020, Microsoft's Windows 10 employs a type of hibernation by default when shutting down. Uses After hibernating, the hardware is powered down like a regular shutdown. Tribe (band)
Tribe was an American alternative rock band from Boston, Massachusetts, United States, which was active in the late 1980s and early 1990s. They released three albums including two on Slash Records/Warner Bros. Records. They were finalists in the 1988 WBCN Rock 'n' Roll Rumble. However, their popularity in Boston did not translate their local appeal into national fame and they disbanded in 1994. Saturn
