SCPO (basketball)
Sporting Cheminot de Pratiques Omnisports or simply SCPO is a French basketball club based in Paris, now disappeared from the top-level. History In 1919 founded the multi-sports Sporting Club de Paris Orleans, a sports club of railwaymen which consists of 4 sections. In 1932 created the basketball section under the patronage of the backbone of Sportive d’Ivry-Port. In 1936 created the National Society of French Railways (SNCF) and the SCPO then changes its name to Sporting Club de Préparation Olympique. The club under the new name became champion of France in 1935-36 and 1937-38 beating US Métro (basketball), Métro during two final games. In 1966 the basketball section disappears to reappear in 1999. In 1972 SCPO again changes its name to the Sporting Cheminot de Pratiques Omnisports. The LNB Pro A, currently known for sponsorship reasons as Betclic Élite, is the top-tier men's professional basketball league in France. The competition has existed since 1921. Since 1987, the Ligue Nationale de Basket has governed the league. The bottom two placed teams from each season are relegated to the second tier level Pro B. The winner of the play-offs of the Pro A is crowned the French national champion. Competition format All 16 Pro A League teams play each other twice during the regular season. At the end of the regular season, the top eight teams qualify for the playoffs. The two teams with the worst regular season records are relegated to the 2nd-tier Pro B. Union Sportive Métropolitaine des Transports or simply Métro is a French basketball club that has seen the elite league in France the period from 1930 to 1940. The club founded in 1928, was based in Paris, and also was a section of sports club of the Metropolitan Sports Transport Union. The team has since disappeared and no longer changes at the local level or corporate events. The women's section has significantly experienced the same history and the same fate. History Métro participated in the first edition of the new National Division championship of France in 1949-1950 and is relegated to Division Excellence. The club return to the great division for the 1965-1966 season.
